According to Tyche Shepherd's SL grid survey, the numbers of private regions over the last few weeks were as follows:

Code: Select all

2015-09-19	18050
2015-09-13	18098
2015-09-06	18114
2015-08-31	18127
2015-08-23	18135
2015-08-16	18134
According to Hypergrid Business's last two monthly reports, the number of regions on Kitely were:
August 2015: 8814 regions
September 2015: 9120 regions

This means that over the past month, Kitely's land area has increased to just over half the land area of private SL regions.

Looking back through the historic statistics, the number of regions on Kitely overtook the number of regions owned by Linden Lab (approx 7100) between April and May this year.

Hello! I just acquired 4 regions on Kitely after a friend from SL told me about it. I'm happy to be here, but must admit that I'm completely spoiled by SL. I'm not leaving SL, as I have much invested there, but it's difficult reverting to the more primitive creations that I left behind over the years. I"m looking at this land and wishing I could import the mesh buildings in my SL inventory!
I'm happy that Kitely is growing more rapidly than others seem to and hope it will convince major content creators of SL to make the leap.

Welcome, Judi!

I do understand the issue about leaving your SL inventory behind. I've been through that myself.

But hopefully over time you will find that OpenSim will spoil you for the amount of land you can build on, and the creative freedom it gives you.

For in OpenSim you can create a complete environment, experimenting with windlight, terraforming, landscaping, judicious use of plants, trees and rocks -- all those things that you rely on your Estate Manager/Owner to do if renting a parcel in SL.

And, unlike SL, here you can make a back-up of your creations and builds (and the export-enabled items in your inventory).

Plus, the amount saved in land costs means you can treat yourself when something new catches your eye on Kitely Market ;)

Maria has just published Hypergrid Business's OpenSim statistics report for December, so it's time to look again at what is happening in SL and in Kitely with regard to land area.

According to Tyche Shepherd's Second Life Grid Survey, the number of SL private regions saw smaller declines week by week over this past month compared with the previous month, for a total loss over the period of 49 regions:

Code: Select all

2015-11-15 17852
2015-11-23 17840 (-12)
2015-11-30 17825 (-15)
2015-12-06 17818 (-7)
2015-12-13 17803 (-15)
In the same period, between 16 November and 16 December, the number of regions on Kitely increased by 314.

Comparing land growth rates over 2015 to equivalent dates in December (chosen to match Hypergrid Business statistics report dates):
  • SL private regions: 18576 (18 Jan 2015) to 17803 (13 Dec 2015) -- a decrease of 773, or 4.16% decrease
  • Kitely regions: 6589 (18 Jan 2015) to 10071 (16 Dec 2015) -- an increase of 3482, or a 52.84% increase
Kitely's land area is now 56.57% of the current land area of SL private regions. At the start of the year it was only 35.47% (just over a third).

Now, if we could only get Kitely's active user numbers to similarly increase... ;)

SL is fun and all but it's so ludicrously expensive that the vast majority of people just wouldn't bother, can't afford it or actually feel quite insulted by the pricing!

On top of that, I actually think that SL has a weird reputation and the name can also put people off.

Kitely is a more neutral and appealing name IMO, and it also has no bad rep, and fair pricing :)
