Where did the name Kitely come from?

Someone asked in the Kitely Community chat and I have no idea.

Hi Serene,
We brainstormed for names way back in 2008 when we first came up with the vision for Kitely and its Virtual Worlds on Demand (virtual worlds as a utility) idea.
Kitely was a short name that was unencumbered branding-wise and that had a good connotation that our friends and family liked.

Very sensible and not at all what we guessed.
Guesses in the group chat included
1. It's a misspelling of Knightly, and
2. They were told to go fly a kite by someone so they did.

I found the old list of potential names we had. What a blast from the past!
Our original idea was to do something around shopping in 3D, so there are a bunch of names related to "shops". Then we basically tried to add "3d" to every word in the dictionary... I'm glad we finally chose "Kitely" over any of these names.

So from the names listed, is it fair to say you planned the market before the grid?

In a way but not really. The idea was related to ecommerce but not as a venue for virtual goods.
