I have a friend who just told me she tried to make a group and it wanted to charge her 100 KC.

I am pretty sure I did not have to do that and I have not heard of others having to pay.

Has this been recently activated or is it possibly viewer related?

In any case, this fee should be dropped.

The majority of opensim grids do not charge for groups formations.

I am trying to get some creators in who are broke and just want to add to the market...Kitely does not need to impede this, at least at this time.

...it does encourage people to acquire KCs.. which is good for everyone.

I was very mildly irritated when I set up my group with the fee in a "it would have been nice if it were free" kind of way, but SL charges, so meh, whatever, but I was MUCH happier with KCs in my account.

We started out without a fee for creating inworld groups and we quickly found that this made quite a few people try to grab all the good group names they could get hold of (using alts to bypass the 2-person minimum per group and the per user group limit). Once we added the small fee (100KC = ~$0.33) people stopped the land grab and instead focused their efforts on creating groups which they actually need.

This is also one of the reasons there is a listing fee in Kitely Market. It prevents people from spamming the marketplace with content that they don't believe they can sell.

One of the goals of Kitely Market is making it easy for people to find what they want. A small listing fee helps give merchants an incentive to create good listings for items that can actually sell.

removed the prior comment...i am sorry, i am not feeling well lately and was being abrupt and rude...the thing annoyed me and I generally keep such things to myself or in private conversations.
