How is traffic measured for Kitely "Explore Worlds" catalog?

Post by Frank SquirrelHerder »

Are there any knowledge base articles explaining how the Explore Worlds catalog is arranged? I recognize by default it's sorted by visitor popularity, but there are several times where I've noticed that as soon as I leave my world, its listing disappears altogether. Not just bumped from the front page, but it can't be found anywhere without directly searching for it!

I really like how https://opensimworld.com/dir shows a live count of active visitors and has a feedback feature to allow visitors to rate and review the region. Is there any chance you might consider adding such features? I recognize that's probably not a high priority, though I think it would help drive traffic. :)

Barring that, it would be great to have Google Analytics-style traffic stats available in our management dashboard (line graphs showing visitor counts and CPU usage, for example). It's really nice getting to see who visited and the duration of visits, so thanks for providing that data already.

Hi Frank,

The number of active users (not parked) in a world is also an important factor in its Explore Worlds ranking. In other words, worlds that are actively used are more likely to be displayed in the first search results page.

Thanks for the reply, Ilan. Do you have a KB article on this topic by chance? I'm really interested in learning what I can. :)

I have an SEO background so this kind of stuff tickles my brain.

Thanks, Ilan. It seems there's not much "hard data" to go off of here with respect to live user counts and such, but I realize the Explore Worlds feature probably isn't a top priority for Kitely.

I'm attempting to ask these kinds of questions in the forums, since the weekly Community meetings are already pretty full. :)
