Avatar Name Change

Post by Gideon Solo »

This may have been addressed, but I can't find it.
I tried changing my open sim name for RP reasons (but not my account name). But when I do, I can't log in. I get a message that it can't authenticate my avatar. So I have to change it back to the old name to log in. I know people who have done this and it worked for them. Wonders what I'm doing wrong.

Hi Gideon,

To rename your world, go to your My Worlds page and press the Manage button to open it's Manage World dialog. You can rename your world in that dialog. Once you've done that click the world name in your My Worlds page to open its World Page. On that page press the Enter World button then press the Login button in your viewer. This will log you into your renamed world. Once that's done, set Home and you'll be able to access your world as usual.

You can rename your avatar in your Kitely account Settings page. Click the arrow next to your name on our website to open the menu from which you can go to that page. You'll be able to use the new name to login via the viewer after you've done that.

Please note that your viewer may cache the old name until you clear both the viewer cache and the viewer inventory cache. To do this in Firestorm open Viewer > Preferences > Network & Files > Directories and press both the "Clear Cache" button and the "Clear Inventory Cache" button; then restart your viewer and log back into Kitely and you should see the updated name. Other people who have seen you inworld may need to do the same before their viewers will show the updated name as well.

Hi Thiagoros,

You can change your account name and your avatar name in your Kitely account Settings page (on our website). You can get to that page by clicking the down arrow next to your name.

Out of curiosity:
The "Screen Name" thingie that Second Life uses - where your account and avatar name remain the same but you get like a kind of Alias shown between your group title and your avatar name - and which is configured in-world, does that work, too?
Or is that the thing the OP was referring to?
In case it is what the OP was referring to, he shouldn't have changed the login name because it's just a label like, say, the group title, and has no effect on the login procedure.

Nomnom!
