Using E-Mails/Passwords?

Post by David Deeds »

Hola! Preparing to take some Games-Based Learning Club kids inworld.

K-12 school, so Facebook/Twitter out of the question...need to use e-mails/passwords.

But I can't even create one successfully! The confirmation message simply never arrives.

Assuming I can get a message with the confirmation link, how would a user log in?

The e-mail address becomes the username a student will log in with using the viewer?

I don't get it. Thanks!

Hi David,

When you create an email/password based account your supply the avatar name you want. The email and password define the login credentials for your Kitely website account while the avatar name you selected, if it's available, will define the username you'll need to use to login to the Kitely grid via the viewer. Please note that the default grid password will be what you provided during signup but that you can actually set different passwords for the Kitely website account and for the Kitely grid. You can use this feature to create the accounts on behalf of your students then give them access just to the Kitely grid.

Please note you can use the following trick to create multiple accounts using a single Gmail account:

Let's say your gmail address is called myname@gmail.com, you can create multiple addresses that will become aliases to this address by appending a plus sign ("+") and some name (e.g. "student1"). This results in email that will look like this:

myname+student1@gmail.com
myname+student2@gmail.com
myname+student3@gmail.com
...

You can then create multiple Kitely accounts, one per each of your students, each with one of the aforementioned emails and your own "master password". Once each of these account is created login into it and switch to its Settings page: http://www.kitely.com/settings

In that page, first set the account Maturity Rating to General so your students won't be able to view Moderate and Adult rated worlds and marketplace items in our website (or visit such worlds on our grid). Please note that it will ask you for a date of birth when changing the account Maturity Rating. This is done just once so what you supply will be locked in so students won't be able to later change their age (the age defines the max Maturity Rating the user can select). If you set the date of birth to the current date then the user will be zero days old and will be locked into a General Maturity Rating for the next 13 years.

Then use the option at the bottom of the Settings page to view and change the current viewer login details. Give the password you create in this step to your students together with the user name you're shown there.

Please check your email spam folder to make sure that our email verification email wasn't delivered there. If it was then make sure to mark it as not spam so you'll be able to see future communications from our system. If it isn't there press the login link on our website and select the forgot your password link to have the verification email resent to you.

Please try changing it from Moderate to Adult then set the date of birth to today, which should cause the account's Maturity Rating to be locked into General.
