My avatar oftentimes won't move when my world loads
Like, he just stands there and can rotate, but can't walk or fly or anything like that. My friend had the same issue with her avatar and she's using a fresh Firestorm install (mine was installed a while back, I'm not sure what the version is). She has no AO loaded or anything clever like that. I have an AO but only a simple one from the Market.
It happens with reasonable frequency.
Any idea what's going on? Have other people had this?

Re: My avatar oftentimes won't move when my world loads
Hi Mike,
There are several common causes for such viewer behavior:
1) When teleporting between worlds, it takes time for the viewer to release the memory it used for the world you just teleported out of and it can freeze while that is happening. The faster your computer is and the more memory it has the less likely you are to encounter this problem.
2) When a world loads your viewer contacts the simulator running that world at a fast pace in order to download that world's assets. This can drown out movement update messages which will lead you to freeze in place. One way to reduce the likelihood of this happening is to increase the network connection bandwidth to the maximum supported by your ISP connection (this is located in the Network & Files tab in Firestorm preferences) and to make sure your viewer uses HTTP for downloading textures (this is located in Graphics > Rendering tab in Firestorm preferences).
Other possible causes for such behavior can be multiple people logging into the same world at the same time, this can cause lag while the simulator handles everyone's login requests. This is especially true when non-Kitely users Hypergrid teleport into a Kitely world over a slow internet connection. OpenSim's handling of Hypergrid teleports is far from optimized and people connecting over a slow network can consume a lot of server resources for an extended period of time, thus starving out other users' connections.

It's not temporary though ._.
He just stays stuck until I relog, then it's fine. But it happens relatively often is the problem.

If it's not temporary then it means your viewer has been disconnected from the server but it doesn't know it yet. There are various timeouts that can cause this behavior, are you able to pinpoint what you are doing when this happens? (e.g. opening a particular viewer dialog, doing something specific inworld, etc.)

I'll see if I can pinpoint that and let you knowIlan Tochner wrote:If it's not temporary then it means your viewer has been disconnected from the server but it doesn't know it yet. Re: My avatar oftentimes won't move when my world loads
Yes, I've experienced this behaviour occasionally of late. It was quite common at one time but, as I recall, was fixed only apparently to have returned, possibly due to some recent updates? The avatar is rooted to the spot but can still build and most likely script. It happens on worlds without other avatars present and of relatively low complexity so I wonder whether it is an inventory issue. As you say, it is easily fixed on a temporary basis via a relog.

The next time this happens to you please send me the name of the Kitely world you were visiting, the name of the avatar you were using and the time this happened (with timezone) so we'll be able to look it up in the relevant server logs.

Okay, we'll need to get a concrete example before we can investigate this further.
