Hello everyone,
I have set-up a world for my school to use. The world is easily accessible from outside the school. I am able to log into the world at school. However, my avatar appears as a cloud and no textures render. I have tried clearing the cache, but it hasn't solved the problem. Our district uses a proxy.pac file for the internet. Could this be causing textures to not render? Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi Sully,
What viewer (and version) are you using?
Cloud problems can often be solved by following the procedure listed at the bottom of this page: http://metaverse4me.wordpress.com/2012/ ... -be-fixed/

Re: Avatar appears as cloud and no textures are rendering
Hello,
Thanks for your reply. The odd thing is, no textures seem to render at all in the world (objects and my avatar). I am using the Firestorm viewer for Opensim. It works very well at home, but in school it always seems to have trouble rendering any textures at all. As long as I have internet access this should work correct? Or does texture rendering happen on a completely different port?

Re: Avatar appears as cloud and no textures are rendering
Hi Sully,
You may be encountering a Firewall configuration problem at your school. Textures are downloaded from our cloud-based asset system which means that your school needs to have port 80 open for TCP on all IPs in the Amazon cloud (where our servers reside). Please note that without having port 80 open for such servers you'll also be blocked from accessing the tens of thousands of websites that use Amazon for hosting their servers (including some of the most popular sites on the Internet).

Re: Avatar appears as cloud and no textures are rendering
Thanks for the help. It appears I was able to resolve the problem by modifying the proxy settings in Firestorm along with removing all avatar clothing and then placing it back on. The whole world now renders properly. Thanks again.
