Re: Sculpts Gone

Post by Oren Hurvitz »

I've been working on this problem, and here's a status update. First, I will be adding a simpler way for scripts to set a single prim to be Phantom. I've proposed a solution to the OpenSim development community, and I'll post once the process is finished. The new way will be simpler and safer to use than the current Phantom Child scripts.

Second, in case the problem goes beyond the Phantom Child script, I'm also adding logging to OpenSim so I can see when a prim becomes a sculptie, or stops being a sculptie. Then if the problem occurs I will have more information to see what caused it.

I expect to have a test version of OpenSim with these changes available in about a week. (The exact time is uncertain because I need to wait for the OpenSim development community to weigh in on my proposal.)

Here's an update on the situation. One of the OpenSim core developers added a new feature this week that allows setting the "Physics Shape Type" of individual prims to "None". That has the same effect as making them phantom, but it's simpler and safer because it can be done from the viewer UI instead of requiring a script.

This feature is currently only on the OpenSim master branch. Since it's a significant change to an internal part of OpenSim we decided to wait a little while to let it be tested before adding it to our (Kitely's) version of OpenSim. We intend to wait about one week, and if all is well then we'll update Kitely then.

I can see this facility being very useful indeed. Thank you!

We updated the system today with the feature that allows making individual prims phantom. See: http://www.kitely.com/virtual-world-new ... rovements/

Please let us know if this helps.

Also, Barnard, we refunded your account 300 KC to cover the cost of having hosted a copy of your main world for a few days while we were investigating this problem.
