Public/private access to a region/parcel

I have a region which I'd like to make private, accessible only to people on a whitelist. This is so I can concentrate on working in that region without interruption.

The region was public, and everyone could enter it. But when I removed the checkmark in About Land -> Access -> Allow Public Access and added avatars to the Allowed Residents list on the same window, nobody else but me could get into the region, even if they were on the whitelist.

So I put that checkmark back, but still nobody can get into the region. So now I can't even bring alts in to do script testing.

What's causing this?

Hi Handy,

I suggest you removed all the users from the Allowed Residents list and make sure the Allow Public Access checkbox is enable.

Then create an inworld group, add the desired users to it, and set access to the world to only allow people from that group. You do this in the Access tab of the Manage World dialog which you can get to by pressing the Manage link in the My Worlds page next to that world's name.

Thanks, Ilan. My apologies - I'd forgotten all about the "Manage World" facility and I was only looking at the "About Land" parcel details. I had the World set to private. That's why nobody but me could get into the region.

If you recommend it, I'll use the groups facility in "Manage World" rather than the whitelist in "About Land".

Yes, that would be preferable, otherwise the world might show up as a public world but people will be blocked from visiting it. Using only the inworld tools will cause you (and us) avoidable complaints.
