Avatar still sinks into the terrain

Since from when I first began using OpenSim on Kitely over three years ago, there has been the issue of the avatar occasionally sinking into the terrain. My original posts were (are) in the GetSatisfaction pages (https://getsatisfaction.com/kitely/topi ... he_terrain).

I still experience this problem and have written this note to reiterate how much it continues to disturb the use of OpenSim worlds. I've attached an image of today's fall into the ground.

Is this problem on a to-do list?

I have to admit, I've not seen that happen in years. Do you use an AO?

At NMA we had this problem (less severe than in the image) We switched to Bulletsim physics and don't have it now. That may be a fix or just a coincidence, but it may be worth trying.

Thanks for the suggestions...

I do not use an AO, but have had the problem continuously through the years. Oren had previously identified it as an OpenSim bug, which apparently still exists.

As for BulletSim physics, that's an interesting idea I had not considered. It wasn't even an option when the problem first surfaced. I've gone in and tried this, and so far it seems to mitigate the problem. However, the switch wreaks havoc with my balloon ride, so there will be work required to make the switch. Still, in the long run, I'd rather rewrite vehicle scripts than sink into the ground! Thank you Selby.

Our switch to BulletSim was motivated be this reasoning: Bulletsim is the future; ODE is the past. Better to adjust to the future than to spend time coping with the past.
