Megaregion or not Megaregion?

The Megaregion is definitely Kitely's feature so I have no experience with it at all. I am not ready to upload one terrain texture at the moment and I wonder what to do. What will be if I don't choose Megaregion or if I can turn it off upload terrain textures and switch Megaregion on? And I wonder what actually Megaregion gives me and when its advantages appear? I went through forum but I am still confused.

Here's a blogpost where Oren talks about Kitely's Advanced Megaregions:
Advanced Megaregions: Up to 5x Faster, and Working Parcel Media
You can turn Advanced Megaregions on and off at any time using the "Manage Worlds" Advanced tab.
When you are uploading raw files or setting terrain textures to individual regions, you need to turn Advanced Megaregions OFF. When you have finished this, turn Advanced Megaregions ON.
If you have a 3x3 or 4x4 megaregion, you need to turn Advanced Megaregions ON in order to see all the regions. If it is turned OFF, you can only see the adjacent regions, not those beyond.
