Crashing Repeatedly

Post by Talia Sunsong »

I am crashing repeatedly after logging in. My settings are to never timeout in Firestorm preferences. The error messages vary, one time it said "logged out of Kitely due to inactivity" when I was sitting in a meeting on another grid, not Kitely. Other times the error message is vague ("region may be experiencing problems" when I'm the only one crashing in that region).

I crash both on the Kitely grid and outside the Kitely grid. Any suggestions for fixing this problem?

Thanks

Hi Talia,

Were you active in the meeting on the other grid? (e.g. did you type anything in, moved, rezzed items, etc.)?

Regarding the second message you reported, what Kitely world did this happen in? If you have your own world please open its world page by clicking its name in your My Worlds page then press the big Enter World button on that page and press the Login button in via your viewer.

If you crash in that world please note that server monitor on that world page. Is the world remaining active for several minutes after you have been disconnected or was it terminated at the same time you crashed?

Hi, thanks for your questions.
I crashed in a Kitely classroom where other students there did not crash at the time I crashed.(In Edummersive learning world)
My avatar skin is often not coming in (it's just gray).
Inactivity does not seem to trigger the crash.

What viewer and version are you using?

Please do a Replace Outfit for your current outfit to force a detach of any hidden attachments that may be connected to your avatar.

After you do that, please clear both your viewer cache and your viewer inventory cache.

Hi, I'm using Firestorm
I cleaned cache after changing appearance as you suggested.
I still am gray to people. I wonder if the number of avatars present is affecting the crashing. When there was only me or one other avatar I crash less frequently

Did you also clear the inventory cache?

Have you tried rebaking textures? (press Ctrl-Alt-R or choose Advanced Menu->Character->Rebake Textures)

Have you tried doing a Replace Outfit on your avatar with the outfit (including skin, hair, eyes, shapes, etc.) that came with your account to see if that works for you? Maybe your current outfit includes some problematic asset.

Great. Now you can try wearing back one item at a time to see if any of them were the culprit. Please note that it is possible that none of them were and you simply had some invisible attachment that caused the stability issues.
