Sunken Terrain

We resized Seanchai homeworld from 2x2 to 3x3 and.....

all terra on the original 4 quads sunk about a couple meters... ack!!

I did a back up oar immediately before resize, so have the original terrain map, but what is best way to proceed to fix?
The oar does not include all objects of course because not everything is exportable

Thank you!!

Hi Shandon,

When you say your world sunk a few meters do you mean the sea level around it has gone up by a few meters? If so you can change that via the viewer.

no no
sea level is same. terrain has fallen about 1.4 meters
all objects are at same height, ie floating above ground now

restoring terrain map seems fix it on Test. will try on Prod tonight

but definitely a gotcha for Resizers

Okay folks, here's the scoop... complete with pics...

We had a 2x2, we resized to 3x3, all Terra on original four regions sunk 1.4m
(picture if you will one of those piles of snow in a parking lot that has melted after a few days in the sun.. same basic shape, but 'melted')
Water was still at 20m
All objects stayed at same height, which means most things were hovering 1.4m above the ground, or in places submerged because terra receded.

Due to my innate sysadmin paranoia, i did take a back up oar immediately before resize.
(resize time stamp 7:26, backup timestamp 7:24, yay for OCD!!)

Restored the terra from the 2x2 backup to the new 3x3... voila... back to norm

So... my strong advice is if you're doing a resize.. BACK IT UP FIRST!
In fact, I believe the Kitely Overlords recommend the same thing!

IF you find yourself in this predicament I'd be most happy to chat with you about it to help you set up test scenarios before you mod your Production environment,
and IF you have to do this too, be aware that it will take a while for the terrain to actually apply after you hit Upload RAW, so don't be impatient.

Below are two pictures, the first shows us with terra sunk, the second shows it restored to normal...
I hope you can see it okay in the pic, pan around and notice our Library building is hovering above the water, trees are hovering, granite abuttments are exposed, etc.
Praise the Lord that Kitely allows us the controls we have here! To have fixed this manually would have been, literally, hundreds of hours of work if done in viewer.

Hi Shandon,

Please try resizing again (create a backup first) to see if this problem repeats itself in that world after using the resize world tool.

will do. i have incremental backups, so can repeat easily. i will document the process.

am curious too. thank you Ilan!
