World Pages - HOP://

Post by Dundridge Dreadlow »

You are probably aware of this, but I just noticed - on world pages hop links are translated to highlighted text instead of being href links. On the forum, hop links are hyperlinked normally.

I hope this is not intended behaviour - they are already tagged nofollow for spam prevention, and it would be really nice to be able to direct people to specific areas in large builds (particularly multiregion)

Yep I just made a comment on that in my post on my orientation center.

I agree that it would be nice to have that available for ease of entry to different areas.

Thanks for pointing this out. We've fixed this, and Hop links should work in world pages starting with the next release (in a few weeks).

There are two caveats. First, the editor won't recognize automatically that something that starts with "hop://" is a link, so you'll have to use the "Link" button in the toolbar to create the link. Second, if you're in Advanced Megaregion mode then the Hop link that the viewer gives you will always point to the South-West region, so you'll need to change it if you want to enter a different region.

For example, suppose you're standing in the middle of region (1,2). The Hop link that you'll get from the viewer will look like this:

hop://example.kitely.com:8002/My%20Region/128/128/23

And you'll need to change it manually to this:

hop://example.kitely.com:8002/My%20Region%201,2/128/128/23

You have to add the region coordinates to the URL. In the example above, since I want to get to region (1,2), I added this to the URL: "%201,2". (The "%20" is what a space looks like in URL's).

If you have trouble creating this URL then you can simply disable Advanced Megaregion mode and then get the Hop link from the viewer. You can re-enable Advanced Megaregion mode afterwards.

Hi, has hop:// behaviour changed recently ?

I've just been to both mine and Caitanya's megaregions, none of the (previously working) hop links seem to be arriving at the correct place any more - instead they just seem to be arriving in the centre of the targeted 256x256 regions.

..it also seems to beam to the centre of (some)single region worlds.

any ideas ?

Are there telehubs in those worlds?

I don't believe telehub is making a difference, I tested in 4 or 5 worlds (including single region ones), I know some of those did not have telehubs.

I did switch to the newer firestorm viewer recently, I'll check the older viewer to see if that still works as before.

Mumble mutter mutter.

Ok, Firestorm 4.2.2.29837 works perfectly (as usual) with hops tested.
Annoying Firestorm 4.4.2.34167 just sends to the middle of the 256x256 region.

bah. Sorry to bother you. Please kick the firestorm people for pretending and not supporting opensim properly.
