Lost Microphone and Audio.

Post by Scott Dolphin »

I recently had a group of 9 people visit my estate for the first time and the minute I started my presentation I lost mic and all audio except ambient noises on my island. What happened? I have a couple of the rideable horses I'm told have caused issues in the past. Everyone else could communicate except me. My mic and audio came back on as soon as we moved onto another island. Any ideas?

Hi Scott,

Did you try restarting your viewer and checking if it helped? Or teleporting to another world then coming back to yours?

When I teleported to the next world on the agenda my audio came back on. When I went back to my world it was working again. I removed the horse prims in the landing area for now.
My worry is next week we have a research project escorting VIP newbies from university tech departments across the state through the wonders of Kitely and I cannot afford to glitch out like this. If I can't handle 10-15 avis in a meeting on Shadowglen I need to rethink a whole lot of my design choices.

This was the 1st time I had more than 2 people show up at the same time on my island and I was wondering if perhaps I overtaxed the servers? I have a LOT of detail on the northern side of my island - although by no means as much as I have seen on some others. The south half of the island is still fairly undeveloped. I also noticed a long lag on some of the teleport functions between parcels. A number of people tried to click on a teleport prim at the same time and it took about 2 minutes to react.

The odd thing is they had some degree of communication between themselves but I was the one who had no mic or audio at all (other than the ambient bird and fountain noise and the horse sounds) I muddled through my presentation in Chat but it was not optimal.

Your world shouldn't have any problems handling twice as many people as you stated. You can track your world's server resources usage by looking at the Active World section on your world's world page when that world is active. See https://kitely.atlassian.net/wiki/displ ... erformance

Intermittent voice problems are caused by your viewer failing to connect to the Vivox voice service (Kitely uses the same voice provider that Second Life uses, i.e. voice isn't handled by our servers but rather by those of a third party). Such intermittent connection problems are often caused by network load on your home network while you're entering a new region. You can reduce the chance of this happening by closing other services that may be using your network, such as file sharing or local streaming software. When this happens the best thing to do is usually to teleport to the Kitely Welcome Center and return or to restart your viewer.

As for teleport prims taking time to react when they are clicked by multiple people at the same time. You may want to review the scripts you used and check whether they were designed to handle multiple interactions at the same time. Most scripts I've seen make assumptions that break when multiple people interact with them simultaneously. Scripts that are based on event handling can't assume that related events are triggered by the same avatar. They also can't assume that the last person to have interacted with the object is the same one as the one who caused the current event to be triggered.
