Other Peoples Items in OAR
Greetings,
I rent houses and shops in TatooineRP. I was updating the sim on my computer and then uploading the latest build as OAR when I was finished. However, now I have people putting their items in-world. If I upload an OAR now, everything they built is erased.
Here is my question
If I save an OAR with their stuff in-world, update it on my computer, and re-upload it to the server, will this work? I mean, when I save an OAR from Kitely, will it save their builds and items as well?
If not, it is going to be a very difficult update because players will not want to re-build/re-place all items and objects for every update.
Thanks for any info on this matter.

Re: Other Peoples Items in OAR
Hi Lunk,
Exporting items via OAR files is subject to content filtering which may prevent some items from being exported. Please read:
https://www.kitely.com/virtual-world-ne ... plemented/
https://www.kitely.com/virtual-world-ne ... rmissions/
I'd therefore recommend against the practice of exporting an OAR file, making changes outside Kitely then importing the OAR file. It's going to complicate things for you if people are going to be making changes to the world on Kitely while you're making changes to the OAR file elsewhere. It's best to just build inside Kitely to begin with and use OAR exports just for external backups (of whatever can be exported from Kitely).

Re: Other Peoples Items in OAR
That will make scheduled and complete updates a nightmare…guess it will have to be a continuous untested update to the sim…and that sucks lolIlan Tochner wrote: ↑Mon May 23, 2022 10:39 amHi Lunk,

Or, if you can afford it, you can get another Kitely world and use it for mockups.

Re: Other Peoples Items in OAR
That’s a good idea, Maybe one day I’ll be able to afford that that’s probably what I’ll end up doing because I hate putting out a release that I haven’t fully tested and it is quite difficult to try and build an update a SIM while people are on it trying to playIlan Tochner wrote: ↑Mon May 23, 2022 12:23 pmOr, if you can afford it, you can get another Kitely world and use it for mockups.

Re: Other Peoples Items in OAR
Presumably you could in principle use some kind of roving sensor to locate and record the position and rotation of newly created items owned by other avatars and, assuming you have copies, write a script for a rezbox that re-rezzes them when you re-upload your OAR. Just a thought.

Re: Other Peoples Items in OAR
Yeah, Maybe I can find a free razz box script and give that to renters when they rent to record everything for themselves then it would be easy for them to replace everything when I do an updateGraham Mills wrote: ↑Mon May 23, 2022 2:13 pmPresumably you could in principle use some kind of roving sensor to locate and record the position and rotation of newly created items owned by other avatars and, assuming you have copies, write a script for a rezbox that re-rezzes them when you re-upload your OAR. What if you duplicated the core build at a very high altitude -- high enough not to cast shadows at ground level. Do the experimentation up there, then, when all is well, bring it down to earth (umm...?) and integrate it with the official build.

Re: Other Peoples Items in OAR
Thats a thought, I think ill just build the updates at home and people will just have to deal with replacing their items. There will only be 3 or 4 a year. It’s too bad it is set up this way, it makes it very difficult for large builds that get updates.Dot Matrix wrote: ↑Mon May 23, 2022 6:56 pmWhat if you duplicated the core build at a very high altitude -- high enough not to cast shadows at ground level. Re: Other Peoples Items in OAR
Forcing people to rerezz items once every so often will likely cause you to lose people over time. I think Dot's recommendation would be better for your community.
