Unable to stream music

Post by Karalee Larsson »

I have been trying for several days to stream music. I have tried various stations on different plots of my land. I am able to listen to streaming music on other people's land. My viewer preferences are checked to permit streaming music, volume controls are up, even checked volume and system preferences on my computer. When I try to click on the music symbol, the button will not stay clicked on my land. I have also had to add the music urls multiple times to About Land. I sure would enjoy some music while in world. Using a Mac Book Pro with Firestorm OS Beta.

Hi Karalee,

Have you tried using these instructions? http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Engl ... a-p/700097

OS is different from sl in many regards, this included.

This may not be your particular issue, but it often is, so I will start with it.

Make sure the "restrict gesture etc" box is unchecked. [default it is checked]

Make sure "estate channel" is checked [and not the default of disabled]

Make sure you have a stream in the music url [I know, I know, that is basic but you would be surprised who misses that]

Thanks for all the suggestions. It seems that I have done all the correct things other than my "About Land- Sound Tab" does not look the same and does not offer an Estate Channel option. It still does not work.

hmmm

Ok, let's check some basics then, and I am only trying to help.

Your speakers are plugged in and such right? turned up? and in your viewer also?

How about trying to tp out to another region and back, sometimes that jump starts it.

I went to Karalee's world, and couldn't hear the music either. We are using the same version of Firestorm OS, latest beta. She's on a Mac, I'm on a pc.

I copied her music stream url (http://64.62.194.11:8020), went to my parcel, added it to the Music URL in the About Land, no music. I grabbed http://stream3.digistream.info:8166 from this topic (http://www.kitely.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=496) and popped that in my About Land, Music URL and heard music.

It might be she's running up against some stale streams.

This seems to have no affect on whether music plays for me. I'm listening to music now, and it is checked.

Well, she was able to get the one that worked on my world to work on hers. She confirmed that the urls she had been trying unsuccessfully were actually known active music streams. She heard them in other places, and copied the url directly.

A question for Ilan or Oren, I was wondering if there are any restrictions on the music stream urls? For example, are any particular ports of limits? One of the ones she was trying for example was http://64.62.194.11:8020. It's using port 8020, so I wondered if maybe 8020 is off limits? Or maybe IP addresses are off limits? Or particular IP addresses?

Hello Karalee!

First of all your music URL is not a valid shoutcast link. If you click on this link http://64.62.194.11:8020 you will get no reply from SHOUTcast interface. Now click on this link http://stream3.digistream.info:8166 and you will see the SHOUTcast administrator interface reply.

Now go to your ABOUT LAND + SOUND and change the MUSIC URL from your http://64.62.194.11:8020 to this one http://stream3.digistream.info:8166 and see if you heard music. If the music is running then your URL is not valid!

If that url is your own URL SHOUTcast radio interface and you try to stream music from your PC to in world then just tell me and i will reply to you how to fix that.

Have a great day Karalee and hope this info will help you!

Cecil, I don't know the first thing about the technical details for music streams. Is shoutcast a particular streaming service? Or is shoutcast a generic name for the process of streaming music? Are there other types other than shoutcast, and Opensim only supports the shoutcast kind?

I don't have problems finding streams that work, and adding them to my about land/sound dialog, I just don't know the mechanics behind working streams :)
