Joint ownership of objects

Post by Justin Smith »

I would like to be able to share ownerhip of objects between several users. In lieu of that, I defined a group "Ediidani Builders" and set everything to be shared by the group. Other members of the group report that they can rez objects, build or delete them --- they still cannot edit scripts within the objects. When they go to the Properties tab of a script it reports that they can Copy, Modify, and Transfer it but the Editor reports that they can't see or Edit the script because it was designated No Copy. Is this a browser problem or a problem with the permissions system in OpenSim?

We're using Kokua but could switch to Singularity...

I figured some of this out: Bulk-sharing an item with a group only gives them copy permission by default. One must go into each individual object contained in an item to give modify and move permission...

Thanks, Justin. This is something I come up against too. Being able to build as a group and somehow ensure that the resulting region can be saved as a complete OAR is a bit tricky at times.

With all of the permissions turned, other group members can edit objects and scripts but still cannot transfer them (!?). I can't imagine why they would want to, but it's still a bit irritating that they don't have complete parity. I've considered creating a "user", "Eridani Builder," setting it as Creator and Owner of everything and having everyone use it when they work on stuff. I'll have to determine whether there's a problem with multiple instances of the same "user" being active at the same time...

So there can only be one instance of a "user" active at a time... The "Edridani Builder" gambit won't work...

Another point: There is a special menu for allowing group members to modify and "move" items --- and many browsers do not show it. I have to use the Singularity browser to enable group members to modify scripts contained in shared objects.
