Firestorm new viewer for Mac users

Post by Trouble Ahead »

The latest viewer seems to bring Mac users troubles. Textures load when seing them , but next time same texture will show grey again, even it should not be. As we noticed this might be a problem with uploading textures in cache and confirmed by FS developers ( as I am participating in the FS testing group in SL)
Some people gave this advise in settings in FS 7.1.9 that makes things better: if you want, you can try ..

Go to Advanced menu → Debug Settings. (To enable the Advanced menu, go to World menu → Show More → and tick “Advanced Menu.”)
In Debug Settings, switch RenderGLMultiThreadedTextures to “TRUE”.
Enable VRAM Detection
Go to Help menu > About Firestorm. Find the lines that starts with “Graphics Card Memory.” (This is also called “VRAM.”)
Note the amount of VRAM.
Go to Preferences → Graphics → Hardware Settings. Find “Override VRAM Detection,” tick that box.
Then set the slider below as follows:
If you have less than 8 GB VRAM, divide that number by 2 and set the slider to the result.
If you have 8 GB VRAM or *more*, set the slider to 4.
Note: You may want to experiment with higher numbers, such as 3/4 of your total VRAM instead of 1/2.
Note also: If you have enabled VRAM override, and you switch back and forth between a 6.x.x viewer and 7.1.9, the VRAM override will be reset to 0 and you will need to reset it or turn it off.

For me , I wait until they repaired all bugs and use the previous one :) saves me frustrations!
Cheers

Hi Trouble,

I recommend delaying upgrading to any Firestorm version newer than 6.6.17 until OpenSim 0.9.3 is officially released and grids can offer full PBR support.

Passing on some information on Firestorm viewers with particular reference to PBR textures and voice.

Firestorm are making this viewer:

https://www.firestormviewer.org/firesto ... our-voice/

permanently available but they will not be upgrading or supporting it.
Please be aware that it is primarily Second Life users who are being considered here but the implicit implications of SL plans will come to affect users of OpenSim in the very near future.
The preserved FS version is directed at those who for various reasons do not wish to be part of the shift to PBR rendering.
Please read the extensive details supplied by the Firestorm team in the link.

There is also a warning about two older versions of Firestorm that some people may still be using where apparently versions 6.4.5 and 6.6.16 are known to corrupt inventory.

Firestorm version 7.1.10.75913 tested in Kitely on Mac:

Some textures stayed grey.. fixed with a little adjustment:

Go to Advanced menu → Debug Settings. (To enable the Advanced menu, go to World menu → Show More → and tick “Advanced Menu.”)
In Debug Settings, switch RenderGLMultiThreadedTextures to “TRUE”.

For the rest: good performance to me , nice metal/ shiny effects , sea water looks like water :)

DD 128 recommended , sailing around 200 works fine to see what's needed. For me things look wonderful! Oh DD means draw distance ( sorry )
I deselect the mirror option for I always have a bad hair day and just don't want to see it. ( and performance is better with deselecting this mirror option in your graphics tab)
Environment settings in your world tab still don't work, but you can use the quick preferences ( firestorm logo tab right below) and chose sky , water , day circle to make your preferred atmosphere.

Cheers
