other viewers then Firestorm for opensim

Post by Trouble Ahead »

Some members of our sailing group are experiencing issues with the latest version of Firestorm, especially when paired with older hardware or poor internet connections. Our world, being richly detailed and highly demanding on viewers due to the intricate textures, feels nearly impossible for some to navigate and enjoy. It’s unfortunate because the world itself isn’t lagging—most of the challenges seem to stem from client-side limitations.
Does anyone know of an alternative viewer that might work better in such cases?
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

(Optimizing the world by removing textures or simplifying its design isn’t an ideal solution, as it would likely frustrate my fellow builders. To start, I’m hoping we can address this issue by exploring viewer-related solutions.)

Hi Trouble,

You can try using an older version of Firestorm, but I'm not sure that would improve the viewer FPS. The most direct way is to use the latest viewer but limit draw distance and/or reduce the graphics settings in the viewer preferences.

I have a fairly new monster of a computer, and I don't use the new viewer. It seems to me that in order to compensate for having to constantly render the PBR textures, the powers that be slowed up animation and anything not right in front of you is blurred out. When you make a quick turn in world, it takes a couple of seconds for it to come back in focus. I think the new viewer is great for casual exploration and photo taking, but not for what you're doing. Your sim is all action, and the new viewer will ruin the experience. Go back to the pre-PBR viewer.
I'm obsessed with Animesh and soon you will be too!
