Logging in Directly with Viewer

Post by Danko Whitfield »

from Dot's summary of the recent mentors meeting....

Unfortunately, the next updates to Firefox and Chrome web browsers will break the Kitely web plug-in. This is because the Firefox and Chrome teams will no longer support executable browser plug-ins, much to the chagrin of many browser plug-in developers (not just Kitely).

Because about 67% of Kitely users use one of these two browsers, Kitely is being forced to change how the Enter World button works, and dropping Kitely Plugin support from all browsers.

The alternative way of entering Kitely is by choosing it from the grid manager menu on the start-up page of Firestorm, Angstrom, and other supported world viewers, and logging in directly. A lot of people already use this method.

My question...

I have always used the blue button. I have noticed on my settings page on the Kitely website that the password for the viewer is different than my password for the website. Which password do I use if I am going to login directly with the viewer rather than via the big blue button on the world page?

i would guess that i use the same password as i do when logging on to the Kitely website and that the "other" password i see in the Settings is one that is only used by the Plugin.

but that's me guessing. :)

since nobody seems to be around yet-))

I do believe that the viewer login details password from your webgui settings page is the one to put in your viewer.

As it does say this:

"To login without Kitely Plugin, start your viewer and use the following information:"
Laissez faire et laissez passer, le monde va de lui même!

Hi Danko,

The password for logging into the Kitely grid is different from the one for logging into the Kitely website.

To see your viewer login info press the "Show viewer login details" link that is found at the bottom of you account's Settings page.

One important thing to note for those using Firestorm, at least on Windows. Even if you're using the Firestorm for OpenSim version you might need to activate access to grids other than SL.

I had to go into Preferences > Advanced and check the "Allow login to other grids" option. This was in Firestorm V4.4.2.34167 for OpenSim.

The good news is that once I did that the logins for all my alts automatically became available in the main Firestorm login window. These will show up as options in the Username drop down window such as: "Deuce Halsey @ Kitely". The passwords are remembered so it's simple to login to any of your accounts very easily once you get the "other grids" option activated.

I use this feature too. It makes it so much easier visiting different grids, or just switching between Kitely and a SOAS instance.
