Permissions Clarification

Post by Jennifer Simoni »

Hi. I'm new to Kitely, and have just started a store on the market. I've searched the forums but haven't found a definitive answer about necessary permissions for export items.

1) I have listed my items for purchase in Kitely only with CM permissions - this part is fine.

2) I'd also like to list an exportable version of these same items, but not sure if they also require Transfer permission, or if CM + Export will work.

Please advise.

Many Thanks,
Jennifer

Welcome, Jennifer! :)

Exportable items can be set at Copy, Modify, Export only. There is no need to set Transfer as well.

For example, Ozwell (Worlds End Landscaping) sets many of his landscaping items as CM E only.

See http://www.kitely.com/market?store=2337532&perm=mce (55 items) and compare this with
the number he marked CMTE: http://www.kitely.com/market?store=2337532&perm=mcte (8 items).

Just to clarify, you can use any combination of permissions with Export, they don't have to be Copy+Modify.

Thank you! I just wanted to make sure that export items didn't require the Transfer permission. I'm leaving them at MC to reduce the "ease" at which they could be open for unauthorized redistribution.

With that said, for Avatar Eyes (in this case) would I be more protected with Copy + Export as opposed to CM + Export? Or does it really matter? Bad folks will do bad things regardless. I want to "try" to stick with the assumption that 90% of folks aren't pirates. Arrgh Matey :)

Avatar Eyes are just textures and those are easiest to pirate (by people who have such intentions and knowledge). I don't think the lack of Modify permission will hinder them in any way.

Hi. One more question on this topic. I did a couple "test deliveries" to myself, and although I have the export option checked on the items that should be exportable, when I receive them into my inventory and look at the properties, the "export" option under "you can" is not selected, nor is it selectable.

Am I a complete tool and have done something wrong, or is this normal? Is there an easy way I can test without creating an alternate avatar in another grid?

The Kitely Export control system is not the same one as the viewer tries to connect to. This means that the viewer will always show the Export permission being disabled for items bought from Kitely Market even if Kitely Market delivered the item as exportable. In other words, the Export value you see in some viewers is meaningless in Kitely. We don't use that value and it doesn't indicate whether or not the item is exportable.

Non-exportable items can't be added to the My Suitcase inventory folder, so you can test exportability by doing a test delivery and trying to add those test items to your My Suitcase inventory folder.
