It does not sound like Kitely Management wants to have any real involvement in a process for community development at this time. So I wouldn't waste people's time by having them attend meetings and create policy with me that has no guarantee of being adopted.

Perhaps, when you have time, take a look at the list I posted and let us know what you will be doing regarding these areas:

Kitely Plaza Stores - Procedure to occupy stores
Kitely Plaza Events - Procedures to use facilitates (Runways, venues, galleries and office towers)
Kitely Plaza Mentor Program
Kitely Plaza Greeter Program
Kitely Plaza Instructor Program
Developing scripted tools that volunteers will need
Volunteer Coordinating Staff for Kitely Plaza
New Resident Starter Kits
Destination Guide
Procedure for use of Kitely College Meeting Areas
Volunteer Incentive Program Development
Community Calendars
Marketing Campaign

I think these areas are essential to Kitely's growth. I also think that if Kitely Management can spend 4 hours this month talking about the color of the sky in a transfer station, then they can take 4 hours a month and develop the community.

Well, the color of a sky is a very important thing...I don't recall anyone discussing this, but this is a valid point.

Hi Blady,

I think we're not having the same conversation.

You asked me about making a procedural change for adding agendas to the weekly Kitely Mentors Group meetings so that you could bring community growth subjects to discussion which you felt were not being properly addressed when I run the meetings.

I stated that issues that you brought up during the meetings you attended where discussed in the meetings or with me via Skype after the meetings ended.

You replied that the amount of discussion wasn't sufficient.

People suggested that you organize community meetings yourself so that you could discuss issues which are important to the community.

You replied that those meetings wouldn't be worth having if the Kitely management wasn't present in them.

I replied that you can organize community meetings with whatever agenda you wish and that I'll attend them.

From my perspective: you asked me to change how the meetings I conduct are structured and I gave you the option to structure meetings as you see fit, not be constrained by having me decide those things, and have me attend in a formal capacity.

From your perspective: you asked me to discuss certain things and, since I'm not open to changing the format of how I conduct the meetings I run, you conclude that I'm not interested in discussing the subjects which you asked to add to the agenda.

We are interested in community growth and, as people who've attended meetings for longer than you have can attest, they have been discussed quite frequently in the past. The texture used in the transfer stations may sound trivial to you but for a significant number of people in the community the transfer station design was very important. The entire initiative to replace that design was raised by the community and we spent as much time as was required to select a design that everyone was happy with. That doesn't mean other issues aren't important to us it just means that we prefer to not annoy our existing user base by delaying discussion of existing usability problems in order to discuss things that may have a less immediate effect on their user experience.

Kitely should hold official community development meetings - not me.

As far as I can see, It really goes beyond discussion. I believe that It calls for creating policy and then putting it in place as soon as possible. You aren't capturing the full value of the Plaza in terms of community growth until you do.

it just means that we prefer to not annoy our existing user base by delaying discussion of existing usability problems in order to discuss things that may have a less immediate effect on their user experience.
That is why we are not having the same conversation. You put very little importance on community building - it is the last thing on your list of things for you to deal with personally. You shouldn't push it off on anyone that volunteers, it should done by Kitely. Because, even though you don't see it, it benefits Kitely. Financially and in increased numbers.

Without community development NOW you aren't going to create any greeters, mentors or instructors. I don't see how that does not immediately effect the user experience right now.

We'll start discussing the issues you've mentioned in the next Kitely Mentors Group meeting.
