Changing land textures on different areas of the sim.

Post by Loni Dove »

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if it is possible to change the land textures on certain parts of the sim and if so, if someone could tell me how to do so. Or, if it is only allowed to change the textures on the whole sim. Greatly appreciate responses. Thank you.

Hi Loni,

Kitely worlds are implemented as OpenSim VarRegions, meaning the entire world is treated as one big region. You can modify the terrain textures for the entire world using your viewer's Region/Estate window but you can't modify them on a per-parcel basis. This is similar to how you would manage terrain textures for a single-region sim in Second Life.

For details, see: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Creatin ... n_Textures

Thank you for your quick response Ilan,

I kind of thought that, but wasn't sure. Thank you for clearing that up for me.
Have a Great Day.

Although you can't have different land textures on the composite standard regions of a varregion, if you use mesh landforms it is possible to combine whatever textures you like.

Several merchants on Kitely Market have sets of landscaping items for sale, in various styles and textures. For example, Worlds End offers a basic set for just 10KC, which is free inworld.

Aethis Creations, Virtual Infinity and 21strom are also possible sources of landscaping items that will quickly cover large areas.

Studio Skye, newly arrived to Kitely/OpenSim, is adding favourites from SL daily.

Thank you Ilan and Dot. I think I might have found a way to put textures where I want on the land. If I were to take the textures and change a section on them. Matching up of coarse. Then use those textures. I think that might just work. Just in case anyone else would be interested in doing it. I'll try it and report back on whether it works or not. Have a great day everyone:)

No. It doesn't work. I forgot about the tiling. I'm not sure what I was thinking, that a texture could cover a whole land. I'm going to stop thinking. :) So read the page that Ilan sent and look into the land forms that Dot mentioned. Good to go.

I realize this is a very old thread, but I wanted to express my thanks to Oz of World's End for his free land forms and other content. Very generous with his talent. Thank you for your contribution to the Metaverse!
