Is there any drawback or potential problem with setting up skyboxes/platforms above 4096 meters? In the old days in SL (2010 or so) I believe we couldn't rez objects above 4096, or those objects we did rez would drift on sim reboot. Is that no longer the case/isn't the case in Kitely?
I, too, purposely set up my skybox (an elaborate cave complex) at 1500 meters because in the past, anything over I think 460 meters wasn't displayed on the world map. I don't want my "backstage" (as Freda calls it) to confuse visitors.
It would be fantastic if we could "opt out" or set a max render height for world maps. That would save all of us a lot of effort from having to move our platforms/skyboxes.

This would be a big step in the right direction...though if it's all the same to you, could I vote for the max render height to be, say, 1,000 meters instead? For my own selfish reasons, 1500 will still be too high as that's where my own sky platform happens to be.Ilan Tochner wrote: ↑Fri Apr 17, 2020 2:21 pmThank you Lotek, we'll look into using this to set the maximum render height to 1500m.
Even better if somehow each sim owner could customize their max render height (or choose from several options like 400, 1000, 2,000, etc.). Easy for me to say, harder for you to code, I know.

Re: Sky platforms showing on maps now
Hi Frank,
We don't limit build height to 4096m but some viewers have rendering issues at high altitudes so I'd recommend building sky platforms that you don't wish to be included on the map higher than 1500m but lower than 4096m. This change to how maps are generated will be deployed when we next roll out a full system update.
I'm sorry but this isn't going to be configurable and 1000m is too low for some things that do need to be included in the world map when people set their max draw distance to 1024m.

Thanks for the explanation, Ilan! That's a reasonable compromise.
Thanks for changing this to 1500. I can work with that!

Re: Sky platforms showing on maps now
Update: we've changed the maximum height at which objects will be included in the world map to 1500m. If you're still seeing objects at higher altitudes included in a world's map then visit that world and wait 24 hours for the new map tiles to be generated for it.
