.raw files before I delete them in my google drive
Hey folks, I hope y'all are doing well.
I just want to drop back in to share some .raw files if anyone wants them.
This is similar to when I shared some of my old single-region .oar files. Then deleting them. I found some more oar and tgz files, but I don't know how "clean" they are. They would have to be vetted before displaying. If we know each other (game play like knowing and I do realize less and less of you are around after all this time), you can message me, and we can discuss you getting them with the promise to vet them first. Please mention somewhere in these forums that you have them up. Same with the raw files, also, if you feel like it.
I need to clean out my Google Drive to free up more space (because Google owns me, and so does Amazon and Temu hrmpph). I use their free 15 GB service.
These are 832 MB files, in case you're not familiar with the size. They will only fit in a single region. I made these before all the neat increases in sizes. They don't include pictures. They once did, when I was selling them. Hopefully, this works easily. If not, let me know, and I will fix it, maybe.
I can't remember why I used some names; others are self-evident. Some are strange, and I have no clue what they look like, since I haven't played for quite a few years now, and I don't remember how long ago that was either. Old-age memory issues (the actual reason I had to quit playing), phhhht.
So here ya go. I will give you until the ~end of December 2025, then delete them without further notice.

Hi. Ok, here are some more .raw files I created way back ago.

And I will break for another short time. I hope y'all like these. I know they are limited, but I still think there is likely a place for single-region .raw files. Besides, I am deleting them all in the near future. I will likely wait until late January now, since I have more than I remembered.
I just need the space on my free Google Drive. And it represents my "letting go", as I know I for sure won't be rejoining you fine people. I have missed so many of you. I have many fond memories of Opensim, meeting fascinating people from all over the world, laughing so much, and it let me explore a creative side I didn't know I had, creating oar and raw files, for a while selling some of my raw files.
I do hope you are all doing ok as we all age together. I am 68 years old now and just trying to manage surviving as best I can with increasing old age issues.
I know things are difficult in many parts of the world. It is difficult here as well, though I say that with a humble heart, I do know things are much worse in so many places elsewhere. This saddens me greatly. I try to keep abreast of the news.
I am doing ok. I have 4 acres of land (1.61874 hectares) in a heavily forested area north of Houston, Texas. So I keep busy tending that and my gardens. Most of my land I have left as an untouched forest. I have created several trails through my forest. I have huge Oak trees of several varieties, large Pine trees, a variety of indigenous plants and trees I love, many southern magnolia trees, which I adore, and much more. I live inside the land, behind green barriers, so that I can't see the streets, and people can't see inside my living areas. As you might see from the pictures, I am in a very secluded area. It is quiet and peaceful, and with so little light pollution, the sky at night is a wonderful thing. It is good for my soul.
I live in a 644 sq ft ( 59.8296 sq m), and it is what we call a Mobile home, a manufactured home that has a wheel undercarriage. I would rather have a regular house, but that's the breaks lol.
I also have a couple of dozen Elderberry trees/bushes. Just this year, after living here since 2005, I harvested their berries and made some wonderful Elderberry Vinegar, wow, it is so good. I like putting it on a feta and broccoli salad with some onions. I know I am lucky in many regards.
Here, I will add a couple of photos.

Wow, that's a generous gift to the community, thanks a lot! I've only had time to look at a few of them for now but they're looking really nice. One of the files, the Volcano, has restricted access though so it can't be downloaded. Is that on purpose or just an oversight?Constance Peregrine wrote: Thu Dec 04, 2025 5:17 pm I just want to drop back in to share some .raw files if anyone wants them.

Hey Tess
Thanks.
Most of mine I created really smoothly. I guess it depends on where someone lives, but we have a few slightly rolling hills around here.
I also did the same with underwater, you might have noticed.
There was some key combination I used that de-rendered the water on my viewer only.
I will fix the volcano next. Take care, more to come in 2026! bye now

Re: .raw files before I delete them in my google drive
Dear Miss Peregrine,
in case it's all right with you, the Shork Group would love to host the files you've linked here on our homepage ( http://shork.for-more.biz ).
Basically for as long as we can.
When it's fine with you, we'd give them their own page in the way of we do for clothing:
https://shork.for-more.biz/wiki/doku.ph ... sticsunset
Is that acceptable or would you prefer a different style?
Also, as we have, like, 2TB storage space left and can extend it for free with another 2TB of storage space:
The other files, those OARs and such, we'd also happily host. Our only limitation is the uplink direction which is just 11MBit. Then again, we checked and we have on average only a 15% load on our line

Re: .raw files before I delete them in my google drive
Hello Haidi,
I feel honored, though I apologize due to my absence from opensim, I am not aware of you.
I reviewed your website. You sound like an interesting group of people. I'm happy to see you found opensim.
I had left SL after only being active there for around a year. Then my main was banned (and keep in mind I was basically a naive newbie just wanting to pass the time). I was banned when I didn't want to pay their annual fee for my second year, and had removed my credit card info (gosh, this is so long ago, I'm surprised I remember). I thought this was ridiculous; anyone could play for free, but as I didn't really have any skin in the game, I found other places to spend my time.
I found opensim, the now gone Metropolis Grid, with whom I adored the German owners and my time there. I helped them grow a bit from people I had known from the inworldz grid, with whom I had bad experiences; it eventually closed as I knew it would.
I played for short times in other places.
As well as Metropolis, I found I could run my own instances through, if I recall correctly, a program called SOAS, which someone had coded and could be run on my own computer. I also, at the same time, found Kitely.
To be sure, it is Ilan who sold me on his vision. I liked the occasional posts from whom, at one time, he called himself...Ilan, was it the Evil Overlord?... I can't recall exactly, his partner. And Ilan and I keep in touch a little bit. I like the guy.
I was dabbling in making sound files. I would mention them in the forums on occasion and give them away. When the marketplace came online, I decided to just offer them for next to nothing, and to this day still sell some. Then I decided to leave the game completely, and I raised the prices, probably too much, and left that shop there.
To be sure, to toot my own horn here, if you don't mind, I contributed to the OpenSim Jira (is that what it is called? I don't know if it is still around). I had done some research concerning a longer sound file than 10 seconds. I had several viewers, and tried them in different viewers and different places, and one allowed 60 seconds.
I then posted my research, and some coders commented they would be implementing the longer file name ability, and it got into main. I don't know if anybody much even knows this now, but it sure made scripting a ton easier when you string sound files. In my shop, I include (what may be too old and no longer work) some of those scripts I gathered. I think they may also be in the scripts section here in the forums. I don't think SL has ever done this.
Anyway, sure, of course you can host them.
I don't want them used in SL; they must remain free and freely offered, and people can use them as they wish. I'm not into the DSM thing (is that what it is called? don't know, don't care), so, obviously, as I don't play and have other things to do in life, I won't do anything about it.
Of course, you should never use links to the Kitely forums here. That's not good netiquette, as I am sure you know. Download them here and use them in your places.
I created them for fun at first, then decided to sell them, then decided to follow Linda Kelly, who was, maybe is still, someone who gave away a ton of content, including many fully stocked OARs, that are likely still on Kitely. I dunno, the tech may have gone too far past her work, assuming she doesn't play anymore. To give them away, and now, many years later, as you see, I am ready to get them out to people and delete them from my free Google Drive in order to gain some space.
To be sure, I just yesterday found I had a ton of Gmail emails that I cleared out and found quite a bit of free space that way. So the need isn't all that much anymore. Still, though, I want to pass them along and be done with it.
So, someone else hosting them sounds good to me. Maybe it would also be nice to give Kitely a shoutout on the files page you mention.
.raw files are only 832 kilobytes, so very small. OARS, you probably know, can vary but can be quite large. I gave some to someone here who has them hosted on his islands; he can comment if he wishes on that. And he would have the files.
I found a lot of neat stuff, and there was, and likely still is, tons of really great stuff out on opensim created and given freely. Arcadia Asylum, whom I don't know is still around, and is with whom I got a lot of neat stuff, for free and full perms, to give freely.
What else? I guess we can figure it out as time goes on. If I were to share the OARS and tgz files, we could find a way to personally do that, up to you, but get me in chat here on that, if you want. They would only be the totally safe ones, but of course, also include the land. There are ways to separate all the assets, but I don't recall how to do that. So, for example, you could separate the .raw from the rest.
Dang, I got stuff to do. I'll add more in the new year.
Merry Christmas, folks! How about a video I love https://youtu.be/lCpXMy5GalI?si=7XGk4zui1JDP86JZ
I know tl:dr hahaha.

Re: .raw files before I delete them in my google drive
You're not the only one. But to be fair, Inworldz was created by a group of three people. One of them was (and still is afaik) a brilliant programmer who did some great work on the opensim software but he was never involved in running the grid. One of them vanished without a trace shortly after the grid opened. That left one person to do all the hard work developing and maintaining Inworldz' services. It was a recipe for disaster of course but I don't really feel we should blame her and quite frankly I'm impressed she managed to hold on for as long as she did.Constance Peregrine wrote: Wed Dec 24, 2025 5:20 pm I helped them grow a bit from people I had known from the inworldz grid, with whom I had bad experiences;
SOAS still exists and although it's outdated (so outdated I actually need to keep an old version of Firestorm to use it) I still prefer it over the more recent private grid opensim distributions. That's where I tested your RAW files btw.if I recall correctly, a program called SOAS
Oh, I definitely have to check that out! Good sound files are so hard to find and they can add so much life to any scene!I was dabbling in making sound files.
In that case, maybe it would be a good idea to convert them to empty OAR files first. That's an opensim only file format. I can do the conversion if you want me to.I don't want them used in SL;
Linda Kellie vanished from opensim for a long time but then she returned with a new collection of delightful allbeit rather laggy mesh builds using the brand name Clutterfly on opensim and briefly Upcycled in SL. Both her Clutterfly works and her earlier works are readily available on opensim. And yes, her early prim and sculpts tend to be rather outdated by now and she's rather dismissive of them herself. But there are some true gems among them. All of it, including the OARs are also available online at Zadaroo.I created them for fun at first, then decided to sell them, then decided to follow Linda Kelly, who was, maybe is still, someone who gave away a ton of content, including many fully stocked OARs, that are likely still on Kitely. I dunno, the tech may have gone too far past her work, assuming she doesn't play anymore.
She isn't. Arcadia never worked on opensim although she did visit briefly. Much of her works have been ported to opensim though and a while ago Ada Radius took the initiative to open, not just a sim but an entire grid, dedicated to her works.Arcadia Asylum, whom I don't know is still around...

As to what happened to her in SL, she was a bit careless and incorporated some stuff she believed was open source but turned out not to be in her works. Normally she would have been able to sort it out and correct her mistake once she became aware of it but unfortunately she took a long break from SL just before the whole thing exploded and wasn't there to defend herself. Later, when she tried to return, she found herself permabanned. She was able to log on with one of the alts she had made to run bots for Privateer Space build and contect a few of her friends so we knew what had happened but that loophole didn't last long.
She won't be back. She logged off from Real Life too not much later and so far nobody's returned from that.
One of Arcadia's last wishes was that her works would be converted to mesh and be made avilable to game creators outside SL. I've tried but it doesn't work. Her style is so idiomatic to prim and sculpt builds it just doesn't translate well onto a different medium. It's a bit like playing Bach's violin partitas on a computer (and yes, I'm a musician in RL in case you wondred). All the notes are there but the magic isn't.
Anyways, sorry about the long off topic rant but you mentioned two of the three content creators I admire the most (Eric Call is the third) so I guess you asked for it.
And they deserve it! In this virtual world of ourse where everybody are constantly chasing the latest shinies, it's easy to forget the people who laid the foundation for everything we do. It's not only the work they left us to enjoy but also the inspiration. I'm certainly not the only person who wouldn't even have tought about becoming a content creator if it wasn't for them.

Re: .raw files before I delete them in my google drive
I'm enjoying the discussion, and the memories, step on my posts anytime! I agree, and there were so many fascinating people. Merry Christmas TessTess Juel wrote: Wed Dec 24, 2025 10:06 pmSOAS still exists and although it's outdated (so outdated I actually need to keep an old version of Firestorm to use it) I still prefer it over the more recent private grid opensim distributions. That's where I tested your RAW files btw.if I recall correctly, a program called SOAS
Hey Tess, I'm a little tired but want to answer you, so this quote stuff I will get wrong. Yes, SOAS, I enjoyed working on land there.
Oh, I definitely have to check that out! Good sound files are so hard to find and they can add so much life to any scene!I was dabbling in making sound files.
Please do, I find it fun to get occasional money added to my PayPal from hereYes, I used to have some very soundaful (new word) lands, overlapping forests and peoples. I enjoyed the serenity.
In that case, maybe it would be a good idea to convert them to empty OAR files first. That's an opensim only file format. I can do the conversion if you want me to.I don't want them used in SL;
It's not a big deal to me, as I noted. Thank you for the offer, but it's ok with me how it is. I do remember doing that sometimes. If I recall correctly, the resulting files are even smaller.
Linda had the clutterfly name on 3rg, which I also read is gone. Zadaroo is still going, amazing lol. I liked that guy, but I forgot his name. I had some small dealings with him, I think.

Well, I beg to differ, but I visited her someplace or other on the HG several times, and we even danced a bit.
Sunbeam, whom I've lost track of, and I first met in inworldz, had some of her stuff. I seem to recall she put them in Craft, but also on opensim, she doesn't play anymore, last we emailed. Sadly, her husband died. The Dude (the Dude abides), as we called him, but he was sick for a long time before. He was involved quite a bit with the Kennedy assassination builds, and it was a hobby of his outside of os. A little story, I happened to come across some actual old newspapers concerning it, which I sent to him. Both she and he were banned from inworldz, and I left soon after, exploring and enjoying the wider meta where we had few rules and had a lot of fun.

I liked her. I missed another who died while I was still playing, if I recall correctly, Judy Murcastle? She created her Hobo carnival all over the meta. I missed her.

Re: .raw files before I delete them in my google drive
Spending a little Christmas time, I decided to remind myself with a little research about some things.
Extract Archives: Standard archive tools like 7-Zip on Windows can extract the contents of .oar or .tgz files, revealing the internal structure of assets, XML files, and terrain data.
tgz and oar file name extensions can actually be interchanged and work. I'm not sure how the state of the tech is now on that, and possibly, maybe, probably, Kitely only allows .oars to load. But you can change any tgz's you have to .oar anyway.
So you can easily extract all assets and the raw file from an OAR, then upload as you do.
Maybe most of you folks know this.
In any case, so someone could get these raw files of mine, and if you can't run a local instance, or don't know how, or the tech is just too much, you can probably find someone who would upload them into a sim and save them as an OAR, even put a few things on them if you wish.
bye for now.

Yes, the Arcadia Asylum Asset Archive (don't blame me, Kayaker came up with the name, lol) at ArcadiaAsylum.org:8002 is very much a work in progress. Slum City pretty much done except for scripting. We are plotting ways to reconstruct Space, and we have two adjacent 3x3 regions for Blake Deeps and Fanci Deep. I've got most of Pirate Town backed up, and will start the painstaking task of restoration today. Much much grid tech help from Kayaker Magic and Iain McCracken. Or, I should clarify, no sane CTO would ever let me near grid management... I'm better at other things.
We discuss and share at the New Media Arts, Inc. Discord channels https://discord.gg/cwZCShN2Z3 scroll to arcadia-asylum text channel.
Dolma Dollinger recently donated chatlogs with Aley (one of Arcadia's alts), where Aley states that she shut down the Arcadia account iSL years earlier, and had never had a presence in OS. Someone was impersonating her. Which checks out with what I saw - I visited the so-called Arcadia Asylum alt in OS years ago, and that person's English, syntax and manners were nothing like the SL Arcadia. Nor were the builds (Africa Slum) hers - not her texturing. I use alts called Arcadia, Aley, Lora Lemon, etc in the AAAA grid to keep creator names as clear as possible, but never to socialize. I've learned that other people working in other grids on restoring Arcadia builds have done the same. Ya, it's confusing. I'll work on that, at least on my side.
I think we will be able to convert all of her builds to mesh - Kayaker taught a few classes on it. It is not easy, especially to keep her distinctive UV mapping intact. But it's doable - I did a few for OSCC2023, working in Blender. First I'll get all the sculpt out. Shannon/Creatya Broden is doing a lot with us on the academic side - archiving principles, cataloging, chain of custody, documentation. I also consult with one of the New Media Arts advisors on art restoration principles. We want the originals intact and in storage on one of the nonprofit's servers - quite a few details to work out on that. Then convert to mesh.
