Hi Ada,
I will have to defer with you folks on the whys and wherefores; it's really been too long ago for me to find accurate memories.
I'm certainly happy to hear folks are working on her stuff again. It's a shame some old .oars were never saved.
Have you gotten with Craft Grid? I don't know if they are still around. I could swear they had some Arcadia stuff, but again, I'm unsure.
Anyway, take care

Craft Grid has quite a lot of Arcadia builds and so does Franco Grid and another one I can't remember the name of right now. Elsewhere on the hypergrid Vbinnia Radek and Virtual Christina have both done great work porting Arcadia Asylum/Aley builds to opensim. There was also an "official" attempt ("official" in the sense that Aley herself was somewhat involved in it) by the Arcadia Asylum Library in SL to port everything to opensim but I'm not sure what came of that. I haven't seen any of those ports anywhere outside the Library's own short lived sim.Constance Peregrine wrote: Fri Dec 26, 2025 8:44 pm Have you gotten with Craft Grid? I still think Ada is the one who's done the most work here. I visited the Arcadia Asylum sim on Kitely a few times while it was still online and as far as I remember there were hardly any builds missing from that collection. And there were no builds there that shouldn't have been there.

Oh, you never told me about that! All I knew is that she visited Aaack Aardvark's store on the OS Grid once. Glad to hear she got to enjoy opensim a bit more than that before she left.Ada Radius wrote: Fri Dec 26, 2025 8:12 pm Well, I beg to differ, but I visited her someplace or other on the HG several times, and we even danced a bit.
I suppose you know by now who the Arcadia Asylum impersonator on OSG was, it's hardly a secret anymore. But let's not name her. The way I understand it, it was an honest although misguided attempt to pay homage to Aley.I visited the so-called Arcadia Asylum alt in OS years ago, and that person's English, syntax and manners were nothing like the SL Arcadia. Nor were the builds (Africa Slum) hers - not her texturing.
There is also an "Arcadia Asylum" OAR full of content with no connection to Aley posted on OutWorldz by somebody. These misattributions are a nuisance but oh well, there are certainly worse things happening in the world.
A straight prim/sculpt-to-mesh conversion is dead easy, the only real challenge is the sheer number of builds. But why?I think we will be able to convert all of her builds to mesh
Aley used prims and sculpts so efficiently there's nothing to gain in terms of performance by converting them to mesh. And once we start to edit and "correct" them, we're on a slippery slope. The only exceptions I can think of are the sculpts she made for the Pirate Town/Fancy Deep build. She was pushing Prim Generator to its limits and beyond for that work and that inevitably led to some seriously bad LOD issues. Fixing this without over-strentghening the LOD models to an extent that may cause significant performance issues is no easy task though. I don't have time to do it and ... I know this sounds arrogant and I may be wrong but I'm honestly not aware of anybody else on opensim who has the experience with and understanding of the quirky SL/OS LOD system that is needed to be able to do it properly.

Re: .raw files before I delete them in my google drive
Because sculpts are being deprecated. They're no longer working all that well iSL. There's a bug in Firestorm right now that breaks non-square sculpt map uploads (yes, Beq working on it], and as you correctly point out, LOD issues in Blake Deeps and Fancy Deep - which at last count are about a thousand builds, big and small. Every time I do more backups, I find assets buried in linksets, or in the SL collections, that are not in the OS collections. Many sculpt maps got corrupted in OS - the ones imported c.2014 via StoredInventory and stored in nested boxes (which don't save to OARs well).
I know several people who have the experience and understanding to do the conversion to mesh. I am one, we will find more. They'd have to value Arcadia/Aley's work, and not everyone does, or they believed the crap about her stealing content. The conversion is tricky, yes. LOD, physics. Keeping the UV maps intact. Separating the chunks well enough to make linksets so that scripts work to replicate what she accomplished in SL over a decade ago.

Re: .raw files before I delete them in my google drive
Hi, sorry, I'm getting confused on the quoting. Please forgive me.
I was the one who mentioned dancing with, well, it may have been vbinnia now that her name has come up. I'm fairly sure, however, that I had email contact with Aley at one time.
I remember being somewhat involved with it all. It was sunbeam magic who was collecting stuff.
I'm really unsure about all the alts and stealing issues. I don't think I really knew about all that then, or didn't care.
There was also a woman, with whom I'm trying to remember, who had some kind of involvement. Was she from Utrecht? She did some amazing OARs. I have her Tomb Raider one still, but I didn't know if I should share after all this time. She did give me permission, though I have lost that note.
Come to think of it, Virtual Christine? Is she still around? I certainly did know her in those years. She wrote about my minethere always avatar name in her blog. And now I remember her husband had died, and she slowly but surely left.
I was never involved with any mesh stuff. I was able to move prims around and could work with some scripting. I never did sculpts either.
Kayaker, I never really knew him well myself. I did buy some of his stuff. And I was around then in Kitely.
All this was under my "minethere always" avatar name that I changed here. My real name is Terri, and I don't do anything that calls for avatar names except here, now, getting these raw files out.
gotta go for now
