Re: Welcome Center: Which worlds to showcase?
We should limit showcase worlds (at least at this stage) to teen-safe worlds (so no Adult rated worlds in the showcase).
I want to avoid placing more than 1 or 2 worlds that include the same Linda Kellie items one can get everywhere else. Maria Korolov's version of the shopping mall is free to access, has working scripts and Adult content removed to be safe for children
http://www.kitely.com/virtual-world/Mar ... eebie-Mall
We can find another one to showcase that includes content that isn't found in the mall and isn't just an uploaded LK OAR file (possibly http://www.kitely.com/virtual-world/Sal ... cal-Garden). I don't want us to showcase the same OAR files people see everywhere. The aforementioned child-safe mall (and possibly the Bazaar if it includes significantly more than just what is found in the mall) suffice for freebies.
The goal is to impress people that Kitely isn't just a place where people upload the builds that visitors have seen in many other grids before. We also want to show high performance. This means that we can't use worlds that are freebie OAR based with only minor modifications and additions. We also don't want to leave people with the impression that worlds are abandoned before they are completed so we can't choose worlds that look empty or are still clearly under construction. We can't include worlds that require people to start configuring viewer settings to view correctly. We also can't include worlds that are hard to navigate. Finally we can't choose worlds that take too long to rez or create too much viewer lag while they're rezzing.
I've spent a few hours going over worlds I recalled. There are probably many that I loved and missed, sorry I just couldn't remember their names and they don't include a world page image or a meaningful enough description for me to be able to easily locate them in the public worlds page.
I think we should showcase one of David Denton worlds (he is DB Baily inSL and won the Linden Endowment of the Arts) - his worlds were created in Kitely and are amazing examples of immersive art available here (if you haven't visited them already I highly recommend you do so):
http://www.kitely.com/virtual-world/Dav ... s-Festival
I think we should showcase some of Karima Hoisan's worlds (a couple of her Kitely worlds were featured in Prim Perfect and they are all accompanied by her poem readings which give the atmosphere for the worlds). The worlds I'd like to include are (she has more you should definitely visit but I think these suffice for the KWC):
http://www.kitely.com/virtual-world/Kar ... -and-Glass
http://www.kitely.com/virtual-world/Kar ... -Profane-2
http://www.kitely.com/virtual-world/Kar ... bgram-X-99
http://www.kitely.com/virtual-world/Kar ... san/Deeper
http://www.kitely.com/virtual-world/Karima-Hoisan/Float
I think we should showcase most, if not all, of the Devokan worlds as they have a lot of artistic value and show off role playing environments in Kitely:
http://www.kitely.com/search?q=devokan
I think we should showcase the following Kitely sponsored worlds:
http://www.kitely.com/virtual-world/Ore ... sal-Campus
http://www.kitely.com/virtual-world/Ila ... tely-Plaza
http://www.kitely.com/virtual-world/Ila ... ts-Sandbox
I think we should showcase these other worlds of note:
http://www.kitely.com/virtual-world/Ene ... pless-City
http://www.kitely.com/virtual-world/Law ... ity-Island
http://www.kitely.com/virtual-world/Cai ... ana-Online
http://www.kitely.com/virtual-world/Dan ... Transgenia
http://www.kitely.com/virtual-world/Rob ... ery-Island
http://www.kitely.com/virtual-world/All ... ally-Human
http://www.kitely.com/virtual-world/Ina ... -Highlands
http://www.kitely.com/virtual-world/Joh ... ht/Vaguery
http://www.kitely.com/virtual-world/Sar ... -Excelsior
http://www.kitely.com/virtual-world/Pri ... hip-Skills
http://www.kitely.com/virtual-world/mat ... erfly-cove
http://www.kitely.com/virtual-world/mat ... /Journey-2
World's Im not sure about:
http://www.kitely.com/virtual-world/Jus ... bservatory - is a good example of an educational build but its OAR file is well known and has been uploaded into multiple grids
http://www.kitely.com/virtual-world/mat-mahogany/Pulse - interesting but is it too simple?
http://www.kitely.com/virtual-world/Bet ... ssible-IRL - interesting but is it too simple?
http://www.kitely.com/virtual-world/mat ... ny/polaris - interesting but is it too simple?
http://www.kitely.com/virtual-world/Ila ... up-Hangout - it is currently the location of the weekly Kitely Mentors Group meetings but maybe they should be held in the KWC instead?
What do you think?
Are there additional worlds which adhere to the aforementioned criteria which you think we should include?
Do you object to any of the above for any reason whatsoever?

Re: Welcome Center: Which worlds to showcase?
I would definitely include the Bazaar as well as the Mall. It has a lot more furniture in it, and of different styles and genres. It's a pretty handy resource.
A couple of other worlds not on the list above:
Ilha Magica
Castle on the Hill

Re: Welcome Center: Which worlds to showcase?
@Dot I've removed Stuff from the Public Worlds list given that it is both an LK clone and incomplete. As it has a few other things besides that might interest educators in particular, I've left it on free access for members of the Kitely Educators Group.

I have to admit to being surprised at seeing Regio Excelsior nominated (thanks Ilan). I've only ever considered it to be a collection of experimental builds tied together with catwalks for people to mess around in.

Re: Welcome Center: Which worlds to showcase?
I'm not surprised, Sarge. Regio Excelsior does look good, and the work you have done with the Myriad system will be encouraging to those who enjoy roleplay involving similar tools.

Thanks
One thing to make clear, though, is that I have done no work on the Myriad system except bring it into Kitely. The credit goes to Allen Kerensky and others.

Re: Welcome Center: Which worlds to showcase?
Paislee has been working all hours to get the showcase display boards in place. They are in the rectangular building on the hill, the "Kitely Worlds Showcase". There are 20 boards in total, but that could be increased to 28 if the central boards are double sided. The board aspect ratio is 1:1, so square.
There is still a lot of work to be done to take excellent screenshots of the worlds in question. Given the tight deadline, the screenshots can be inworld ones (i.e. not saved to desktop and reworked in Photoshop/Gimp), using a resolution of 512x512 (possibly even 1024x1024 if that results in a sharper image).
Use Ultra graphics settings, with region Windlight enabled, and maximum sensible draw distance.
The aim is to create intriguing but true to (virtual) life images of the worlds in question, so that visitors are encouraged to explore them.
Now... are there any photographers out there? Help is needed! Please volunteer below, including the name(s) of the worlds you will try to capture on camera. If you know of anyone inworld who doesn't read forums but does like photography and is good at it, please tell them about this. Thanks!
Deadline for screenshots: 30 August -- but sooner than that if possible.

Just for clarification, its a single pic? The boards won't be set for slideshow?Dot Matrix wrote:Paislee has been working all hours to get the showcase display boards in place.
