Variations : Categories & Maturity

Post by Sierra Jakob »

I could consolidate many of my products into one listing if I was able to create variations of different maturity levels and under different categories. For example, I could list "Avatar Mary" with Skin at different maturity levels, several different shapes, eyes, hair, all as Mary pieces. Actually, I'd really like to do it this way.
Just wondering if making maturity and categories a variation characteristic would create problems for the structure or function of the marketplace?

(P.S. I know how sell the things other ways, it's just this would be more convenient, and seems more efficient from a merchant's labor point of view. I also know that listing things separately can get more views and more sales, but, it's all a balancing act, right? :) )

Hi Sierra,

Everything is theoretically possible but the marketplace is not currently designed to support products that have variations in multiple different categories.

Currently when you view a product you see all its variations. Filtering variations by maturity is easy to implement but may create confusion and customer support / PR problems. For example, a mother viewing a variation her child bought and seeing the product contains variations that are not appropriate for the child's age. That mother may not understand that she is seeing variations that are not displayed in her child's account (we've already had people complain about Adult worlds showing in Public Worlds page without understanding that they only see those worlds because their own account has an Adult maturity rating).

That said, organization wise having maturity rating be a variation attribute and not a product attribute makes sense. We'll need to think about it.

Thanks. Both of these would be helpful if the opportunity arises in the future.
