how to handle "fat packs" vs single items

Post by Ozwell Wayfarer »

I have an idea that I would appreciate some feedback on.

I have been looking at how I am going to offer my RP products, and I think the best way to offer value to my customers is to ship things in themed packages. So for instance, the packs I am working on presently are:

Farmers House
Peasants House
Noble House
Aristocrat House
Blacksmiths Shop
Weaver Shop
Bakery

So, in the Peasants House pack, you get everything needed to furnish the basics of a lower class medieval house. Table, Chairs, Shelves, Bed, chest, dining set, washing set, crap bucket (crap not included ;) ). In the Weaver Shop pack, you get everything you need to furnish just the shop area of a weaver store. The aim is to be as comprehensive as possible.

But I got to thinking that maybe at times people will want to buy components from these sets but not the whole thing (each set will retail between 5-15USD depending on size, scripting, anims, perms etc).

Thing is, I don't want to clutter up my store with individual listings for single chairs, tables, book piles, candles and suchlike. I would rather keep a separate store for this. My store right now sells "fat packs" for lack of a better term.

I do remember at some point there was a discussion about being able to open two stores with the same avi, but don't know what became of it. I couldn't find the thread anywhere.

I assume we still cant have two stores under the same avi, so can anyone suggest an approach besides the obvious "get an alt"?

Cheers :D

Why not just include "Fat Pack" in the product title for all fat pack type products?

Maybe its some little OCD part of me, but I just picture my store becoming cluttered. When you take into account texture variations, perm variations, different items included in different "sets" it easily becomes confusing finding what you are after. I was considering handling it through product variations but this was too cumbersome.

I would rather be able to provide a link to a substore in each listing where individual parts can be purchased. In the end its a little more work but a bit more orderly too.

Hi Ozwell,

Use variations for variations of the same items and list separate items separately or in fat packs. Let people rely on the marketplace filtering and search capabilities to sift through your products. It also makes your store look good to have a lot of unique items, each with many variations. People don't get lost on Amazon, they'll be fine even if you list thousands of different unique items in your Kitely Market store. Just make sure to use variations whenever it makes sense, don't list slightly different products in separate product listings unless you can't create them all as variations of the same product listing due to the 20 variations per product limit.
