I have been involved with parties in SL in Linden land. Keep in mind that an event need someone on hand all the time who can:
Set, reset, and fool with the parcel music stream
Eject and ban griefers

Banning people from KWC might be especially problematical.

I think we are talking about something that lasts no more than a couple hours. Maybe three at the top end. Whenever it is held, I will be there for the duration. If I can be given perms, I know how to run the stream, eject, and ban. If I am not given perms, then someone who has perms will need to be present.

Selby is right that banning folks from KWC is particularly problematic. I am willing to pay for an extra sim for this event if that is what needs to happen. I would get one and then un-get it the next month. But first I would like to know if Kitely can provide a place other than KWC. Ilan? Thoughts?

Plenty of people have already built places where events can be held, including some on Fixed-price worlds.

Why not see if one of them would be suitable?

A party doesn't have to be on the KWC, which is really more designed for smaller chat-based gatherings. Maybe for Stage 2 a special events arena might be added.

Maybe a monthly party, as suggested, on a rotating basis at any world who cares to host the party that month? (or was that already suggested?)
I'd have to check with the Board, but I'm pretty sure Seanchai would love to be in the running to be a host on one of our worlds... we are all about bringing community awareness and audience to Kitely and to our programs!

And Selby is right, a Host needs to be on hand for the duration of the party... we have lots of experience with hosting.. as well as whacking griefers (some of us take great pleasure in said whacking! LOL)

My own feeling is that an all-kitely party should be held on common land, not on land that belongs to any one of us. Otherwise, it's just another privately hosted event. I mean every event we have at Poesy (and we do have a ballroom there) is open to the public, but it is our event. My thinking was that what folks wanted was a Kitely party, in part to celebrate HG opening. If I have that wrong, then we can just put it at Poesy or Spirit Paths, thereby simplifying all the permissions issues Selby pointed out. And so far as recurring events ago, that is our business, but I would not commit to hosting a party/dance on a monthly basis. Seasonal dances would be as far as I'd be willing to go on that front because Poesy will be hosting some music/dance events regularly already. One will be the last weekend in June for our official grand opening.

So are people really wanting a recurring event? Is there a reason not to start with something less ambitious? A one-off? and then see what happens? I mean of it turns out all the dances that will be held on individual sims in the future are not enough-- could we not turn to a recurring all-kitely thing later?

And is it really impossible to have an all-kitely dance on common land?

no, no Freda.. this is YOUR baby now.. we want a party 24/7 and YOU'RE hosting it... and providing refreshments!!

Seriously, I feel like I am not clear on what people want. Are we talking about a one-off or a recurring event? Are we talking about something that is hosted by one world and everyone comes or something hosted as a Kitely thing?

We did not get very far with this discussion, there not being enough feedback for me personally to take it as a sign people are interested enough to participate in planning and attending an all-Kitely celebration of some sort. If I am wrong about that, speak up and we can see what can be done.

I intend on attending any I can Freda...which won't be many or maybe one or two, but it is the spirit that counts, right-))
