What about having the G's horizontal line start a few pixels below the H's horizontal line and, going behind the H, continue parallel to the H's line until a few pixels before the H's left vertical line? (

Like this?

(I've put it on a white background to make it clearer)

Just in case, I've also done one with the G the same colour as the H:

I think that's too crowded, personally.

That's what I had in mind but I'm not sure it looks good.

What if the G were the innermost circle? Would that work?
(I still prefer the designs with just the H, but if we're experimenting...)

Hmm, I think it wouldn't be visible unless I made the inner circles darker (ie less transparent), which would again make it appear crowded. Also, the horizontal of the G becomes harder to separate from the H as it gets smaller.
So far, I still favour the plain circles.

I definitely prefer the version with the blue circles (where the G is light blue, not the same color as the H). It's very subtle, but still gets the G across if you look hard enough.
Some people won't get the G at all since it is nearly subliminal, but who cares really? As long as it gets the point across that the world supports HG access, the badge is doing
its job.

The barely visibly G adds a notice point --- A few will notice it and point it out to their friends. Every mention has value to you if you are promoting.

maybe poke the "G" slightly outwards, instead of inwards

You mean the tail of the G? If that goes outside the main circle, then the overall size of the rest of the logo would be reduced by that much.
