You were the model of restraint. It was an obvious case of trolling.

Nope, change is bad.
I know one argument that keeps coming up is that people will sell only through the marketplace and not buy land to maintain a store. I'm sure that will happen in some cases. In SL I still prefer going to the store to see the item inworld before buying, and I hope that is still an option that many merchants will continue to provide. In a lot of cases though, I never would have even found their content in the first place if it hadn't been in the Marketplace. It is a lot quicker to browse the market than teleporting around the map and wandering through stores. Mind you, I enjoy wandering around that way at times, but if I'm looking for something specific the Marketplace is where I go.
I think the Marketplace becomes even more important for Kitely because there is no always on Grid that people will wander through and find stuff. I don't know how many businesses actually get significant traffic from random passerbys anyway, so it may not be a big issue. Having lots of good content available is ultimately what is going to keep me in a grid. And with what I save on tier I can afford to buy more stuff. I'm sure that scares people that depend on land rental for their revenue, but I don't see it as the end of the world. People are still going to want cool places to visit and hangout.
