Requiring people to configure something is bound to create problems. Maybe have special rabbit holes for Adult worlds (ones that look more sinful

) amd keep the remaining rabbit holes Moderate/General rated.

ahhh, now that is almost workable.. if we change it slightly..
It's easy to detect an adult WORLD, but not an adult USER..
if a USER tells the Godess they are an adult, that might work.. ?
..I can of course, add an adult/regular rabbit hole and see which people jump down..

Works for me Sierra. Can we plan the themes a year or several months ahead of time? Might make it a bit easier to get items together in advance that way.

Personally, I'd prefer there to be a gap to ensure hunts don't lose their "specialness".
But retaining and expanding the teleport infrastructure to help people explore Kitely is a brilliant idea.

It's not so much long term planning Minethere, as making sure I can find the time to build items for the themes and maybe build "in theme". If they run monthly it shouldn't be too hard to decide on 6 or 12 themes. I can fly by the seat of my pants when I have to. I do it in real life all the time. Just not my preferred mode of operation.

I agree. If there is always a formal hunt going on it will just fade into the background.
Plus I don''t fancy the idea of having my main arrival area cluttered up with a hunt NPC, teleporter device and signs all the time.
Maybe just have seasonal hunts, like for Christmas/New Year as well as Spring?

Yes, keeping the teleporters around is a good idea. Perhaps make it available as a script in case world owners would prefer to
create their own teleport device that fits the theme of their world?

Great idea to keep the hunts around. Maybe pause the hunt for May and then use a Wedding theme for June.
You could leave the rabbit holes around and put an explore Kitely sign on them when there is no game.
The game structure is definitely too valuable to leave unused, especially since it could be adapted for use as an educational game. Replace eggs with questions answered correctly or skills demonstrated and the egg count measures course prgress with guidance on where additional work is needed.
You might want to introduce some levels of achievement. 100 items, say, might get the person 6 months free rent on a residential spot. I would probably be willing to donate $100 in KCs for use as prizes.

A few people mentioned it in relation to new people coming into to Kitely. That makes sense to me because they are the people most likely to need new items and can/should be encouraged to explore Kitely. It gives merchants and those who want to introduce others to their worlds a pretty simple, inexpensive way to do that. It also introduces them in a positive way to some areas of Kitley they might not otherwise see. And encourages people to get out and about to perhaps socialize in other worlds. I don't think I'd want to "hunt" in the hunt all the time, but I'd be willing to build items and have them available on my world for the hunt. Items probably won't need to be changed as often if the hunt is targeted at new people. Maybe some sort of rotation of merchants/builders to keep things fresh? Or maybe people can opt out when they need a break from hosting?

The teleport system underlying the rabbit holes is a generic tool that can be used for many different purposes and events. It's fun and simple to use, and encourages wider exploration.
Could we try to list those purposes and events and then see if we could group them systematically? It might suggest further ways of exploiting the system and/or ways it might be developed in the future. Here are a few thoughts for starters, including ones suggested above:
- Hunts (but not continuously, possibly seasonal -- maybe four a year?)
- Getting started/settled in Kitely (avatar set up; finding a home if you don't want to develop your own region)
- Themed explorations (sci-fi, role-play, medieval, story worlds)
- General/Moderate/Adult rated worlds
- Hypergrid exploration
I agree with Deuce about the need for different metaphors for the actual portals.
And is it possible to have more than one set of teleportals on the grid at the same time, each set performing one of the different functions?
