PayPal's new policy

There are new PayPal's rules, going into effect on July 1.
Most discussed parts are these:
"You consent to receive autodialed or prerecorded calls and text messages from PayPal at any telephone number that you have provided us or that we have otherwise obtained."
"If a telephone number provided to us is a mobile telephone number, you consent to receive SMS or text messages at that number. We won’t share your phone number with third parties for their purposes without your consent, but may share your phone numbers with our Affiliates or with our service providers, such as billing or collections companies..."

Media is making a fuss about that, it looks like it is not clear if there will be some way how to opt-out of this, and whether it is only for US accounts or not.
Mentions are here and here and on many other places.

Since PayPal is only way how to pay or get paid in Kitely, I guess you have to learn about that...

Graham, I read that, but when it is not written on PayPal webpage, it is only an opinion:)
I got non-US account, and when log in into account, there is link on Policy Updates in my Notification area. Exactly same policy updates, which are discussed.

I can see the changes but they don't include the phone aspect (unless it's hidden further down) -- I'm from the UK.

In my policy update, I don't see the part about phone calls either.

Accessing the Paypal Legal Agreements from my account, I see at the head of the page
"These legal agreements apply to users in European Union countries except Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Switzerland, and Vatican City"

I don't know why those other EU states would be different, unless it's the way in which EU directives are implemented via their individual legal systems.

Good point.
They are signed up to some EU legislation, so presumably that would be the connection.
