Relevance vs. best selling on market

I'm curious how the algorithm works for showing the order of products when sorting by relevance. Does anyone know? It seems to change quite a lot from day to day in my store.

Hi Tocy,
There are quite a few factors taken into consideration, including the amount of fit between the product listings and the user's marketplace filters and search criteria.

Does looking (clicking on) at the item come into play at all, Ilan? Basically, if I look at my store (no search criteria) today, and then again tomorrow, different products are on the front page. I'm wondering why, or how that is decided.

There are multiple factors that go into the relevance sorting algorithm. The goal is to help increase marketplace sales which means showing people things we believe will be of interest to them. Advanced marketplaces that employ smart algorithms rarely share how those algorithms work as doing so would provide people with the information they need to try to game the system.
What I can say is that I'm sure our algorithm will continue improving over time.

Fair enough, Ilan.
