Think this was discussed in the old support site, but wanted to add my "vote" to it here. Our forums allow me to get email notifications about new posts to threads I am interested in. I love that!

I'd also love the same feature for IMs received inworld from avatars and scripted objects when we aren't logged in. In SL, I made use of scripts that emailed me notifications when things happened. This is a very useful tool for many things, and especially customer service once merchants become active. Merchants in particular like to know as soon as possible when a customer has sent them a message or dropped them a notecard.

It would be useful even with throttles (to prevent spamming) in place, because scripts can be written to stay under throttle limits.

We have to prioritize what we work on and have a very long list of features we'd like to add but we'll look into this one. If it doesn't require too much work to do then we'll put it higher on our list.

I don't even want to think what your list looks like. /me imagines something like Santa Claus' list of naughty & nice.

I imagine your priorities are just fine. I reposted in our new forum just to be sure that the idea/request doesn't get lost.
