Kitely's Content Liberation Initiative
We just announced our initiative for helping content creators change the balance of power when listing their items with online marketplaces.
We've also eliminated Kitely Market listing fees and updated the terms of service.
For details see: http://www.kitely.com/virtual-world-new ... ion-front/
Please let us know what you think.

Re: Kitely's Content Liberation Initiative
"zero, nada, zilch-))
We would like you to stay with Kitely, of course, but we'll have to keep earning your trust by providing the best service; not by holding your content hostage.
implement the content exporter that was described in this blog post (it’s not ready yet)"
This is really excellent-))
As I had suggested a month ago, and I take no credit of course as I am sure others who use better language convinced you to do this [I just use plain ol' Texan], removing the listing fees is a very, very good idea.
I love the content exporter concept as well. I particularly love the not holding content hostage words.

Re: Kitely's Content Liberation Initiative
In reference to this:
"The reason Kitely Market is involved in this process at all is that it contains two powerful features: first, the Content Analyzer which allows you to find and fix problems; and second, the Content Exporter which saves your content to your hard disk."
Might the ability to add the "exportability" yes/no function be a third thing to add to this list of advantages?

Re: Kitely's Content Liberation Initiative
Hi Sierra,
Being able to set the exportability of sold Items is indeed an advantage of selling Items via Kitely Market but it isn't a relevant feature for people who only want to use Kitely Market to get a backup of their Second Life content that is verified to be complete and working in OpenSim as well. We're basically offering Second Life merchants a way to make sure that they have a working backup so they aren't forced to accept Second Life's new TOS to continue to be able to leverage the content they created for Second Life. This is a contingency plan for them, they don't have to actually sell outside of Second Life or even let anyone know they're doing this, but it would be very prudent for them to at least make sure that they have a working copy of the content they spent so much time creating. As many merchants can attest, Imprudence and Second Inventory don't always make perfect copies and its hard to know what they've missed when things don't exactly work.

Re: Kitely's Content Liberation Initiative
I'm not a maker of things, so this doesn't affect me directly, but I just wanted to say, "Bravo!"
This is a very attractive policy. You have presented it all extremely well on the Kitely blog. And your timing is perfect.
Very, very smart.
Indirectly this may affect me - and I certainly hope it does - by bringing more talented and creative people with quality items to Kitely and the greater OpenSim community.
Well done, guys.

Ilan ....this is a fantastic idea and initiative!
I feel that this has the potential to make Kitely the benchmark and spearhead of free virtual worlds while paying respect to the intellectual rights of creators - bravo!
