Developing the teleportal system beyond the April Hunt

The teleport system underlying the rabbit holes used in the April Hunt is a generic tool that can be used for many different purposes and events. It's fun and simple to use, and encourages wider exploration.

Ilan commented that: "I love the idea of morphing the hunt into a more generic discover Kitely experience for new users and including that as part of the KWC. That can engage people and increase the likelihood that they'll run into other people inworld."

We started to discuss this in the Hunt World Owner chat thread and in the Community Meeting on 23 April 2014. It was agreed in the meeting to continue discussion in the forum.

Here are a few thoughts for starters (repeated from the Hunt chat thread):

• Hunts (but not continuously, possibly seasonal -- maybe three or four a year?)
• Getting started/settled in Kitely (avatar set up; finding a home if you don't want to develop your own region)
• Themed explorations (sci-fi, role-play, medieval, story worlds)
• General/Moderate/Adult rated worlds -- note that worlds accessible from the KWC need to be General or Moderate
• Hypergrid exploration

I understood Dundridge to say that these different sorts of functions can be catered for with the teleportal system -- no doubt he will put me right if not!

It was emphasised in the meeting that world owners would like the ability to tweak the appearance of the portal so that it fits with their world's theme.

So... how might this be developed? What would people like to see from their own point of view? And how might it help people who are new to Kitely?

I am not an artist but I do pretend to be one sometimes. So I can see where the motivation behind this statement comes from.
Something like an official "Discover Kitely Experience" or a themed event like "April Hunt" might consider consistency.
