Oddy's OpenSim Script tip #1

Post by oddball otoole »

So...Particles are a pain in the bottoms. (fact)
So...You can buy Particle generators in SL. (fact)
So...That's fine when you are on SL and have L$ to spend. (fact)
So...You can go to SL, buy a particle generator, create a particle, copy the script, get yer bottoms back to Kitely (or any other opensim grid), create a new script, upload texture (optional), paste new....pfffff.

Now here is a fun fact: The firestorm viewer has a build-in particle generator! (I'm not sure if other V3 based viewers have this to, I don't use other viewers very much)

The folks at Firestorm has put a lot of effort in hiding it, but I have found it!

Rezz a new prim and with the 'Edit Window'.
Open click on the 'Build' button in the upper menu.
Choose 'Object' in the dropdown menu, then choose 'Edit Particles'

This opens a Particle Edit window.
Have fun playing with all these settings!

But be WARNED!!!
The folks from Firestorm are evul! They r 666, they be satan!
There is a difference in particles for SL or Opensim. In SL you can adjust the amount of glow and add a alpha layer to particles, in Opensim this is not (yet) implemented.
So you have to comment out 4 lines of code in your new script.

There you have it!
Yer own freebie particle generator.
Have fun with it!
