Messaging and online status bugs

Post by Ozwell Wayfarer »

I and a number of other users have discovered that messaging presently only seems to be working when you are in the same world as one another. When you are each in separate worlds, the message "User not online. Message saved". Is displayed. Also people are showing as online when they are not. Sin Karskin messaged me multiple times over the course of yesterday because I was showing as online. Also, my name has been showing as though it is a hypergrid avi. Ozwell.Wayfarer @grid.kitely.com:8002.

This all seems to have come about since the recent update. Dundridge says it was an issue before but if so it must have been intermittent whereas now it is consistent. Myself, Dot Matrix, Dundridge Dreadlow and Paislee Myrtle just met at my world "Ozwells Sandbox" because it was the only possible way to communicate.

What happens when both people are online but in different worlds is that they are shown online in the Friends list, but in the IM window you get the "user not logged in" message each time you type something. This message is sent to their email.

When they reply inworld in their IM window, they get the "user not logged in" message and the message is sent to your email.

Teleport offers fail too.

As soon as the people enter the same world, the IM window messages work as expected, with conversations once again possible (instead of playing email ping pong).

I don't know if it helps to identify it, but I first encountered this problem on the 3rd April (and it's been a regular issue since).

I've fixed the bug that prevents IM's between regions, and the system will be updated tomorrow.

Ozwell: you included a couple of other bugs in the initial post. Regarding the problem with users that appear Online when they're not: I added logging to diagnose this problem. After the next update I'll post a request for bug reports (don't send them now as right now I don't have the necessary logging yet).

You also said that you appeared as "Ozwell.Wayfarer @grid.kitely.com". The next time this happens please report the time in UTC (you can get it from the main page of the forums) and the region you were in.

One more thing regarding the appearance of "Ozwell.Wayfarer @grid.kitely.com": when this happens, try to clear your viewer cache and restart. Viewers cache user names, so this name might appear if you were previously on another grid and happened to look at an item that was created by you on Kitely. Because in that case, the viewer would associate your User ID with the name "Ozwell.Wayfarer @grid.kitely.com".

Hi Oren,

It was not me that was seeing my name that way. It was Dot who reported it to me. My name was showing up that way in chat apparently, but it never appeared that way to me.
