OpenSim/ODE seemed to handle the strain extremely well, even when there was lots of killing and exploding going on.

Without wishing to put a kink in anyone's plans for world domination, it strikes me you could use the same approach to have a very nice battle between human host and bacterial pathogen. Swords into ploughshares, that kind of thing...

Thanks Graham. This looks like a cool idea to work on. Especially if the RezMela map could also show a map of the body or organs ... to locate the various biological elements of concern. I think that would add to the learning context. In the future, it will be great if activities in the battle zone as it were, are also represented in some way on the board, so that the board also acts like a real time view of what's going on.

Promising idea for instruction in biology and medicine. Here is a precursor that could suggest story lines:

Fantastic Voyage is a 1966 science fiction film

A diplomat is nearly assassinated. In order to save him, a submarine is shrunken to microscopic size and injected into his blood stream with a small crew. Problems arise almost as soon as they enter the bloodstream.

I think the map would have to be fairly simple and in principle the world/region map should be the basis for it. You might annotate the map using prim numbers/letters in the sky with the benefit that you can then use the minimap to teleport (e.g. http://www.kitely.com/market/product/37 ... umbers-1-5). Ideally you would save the map with an OAR and display it behind a semi-transparent RezMela map on loading the OAR.

High-level map designs could be symbolic or representational. They would vary with host, pathogen and the student level of understanding. Students could be involved in map design and the objects themselves could function as exhibits as well as being fought.

Afterthought: Add NPCs for one side or the other and you have something a wee bit like Minecraft in survival mode? Not that I play the game...

Using the world/region map is a good idea.
Currently in RezMela, we put teleport icons on the RezMela map, and clicking on those icons teleports the avatar to the corresponding position in the region.
Yes I agree, beyond linear representations of in world events/structures, we need 'semantic' views to what is happening in the world ... that could help students understand various systems through the models that the views would embody. I am pretty much just borrowing from Geographic Information Systems where such topics are addressed under the banner 'Spatial Data Visualization'.
