Time for Devokan Storybuilders to celebrate? Yes!
In that time OpenSim has improved leaps and bounds. I mean this quite literally — in early days region physics crashed regularly so we moved by sitting on a prim and editing it.
Hypergrid technology means we can build on different grids, choosing them by matching their individual strengths to particular projects, while still keeping in touch with each other, even using a single avatar to visit all.
So… what is planned?
Tour the Metaverse
On Saturday 31st January, there will be a special Metaverse Tour of just a few Devokan or Myst/Uru-related builds. We’ll start at the Kitely Welcome Center, from 1 pm Pacific time, and from there visit updated versions of the original Devokan regions on OpenSim, i.e. Deepwater and Waysmeet, before moving on to other Devokan or Myst/Uru-related regions in Kitely and the wider Metaverse.
If you're interested in reading how a group of "D'ni Refugees" role-played the move from Second Life to OpenSim all those years ago, the story is here: Devokan 1: Endings and Beginnings.
Echo Starship concert on Time Vault
A week later, on Saturday 7th February (i.e. just 5 years after the farewell party on SL Devokan), starting at 2 pm Pacific time, there will be a concert featuring live ambient improvisations by the gifted artist Echo Starship, one of the originators of ambient music in virtual reality -- many thanks, Roxy, for all your help in getting this set up, and to Echo for agreeing to take part.
The concert will take place on Starfyre, the SE region of Time Vault, built by Paislee and award-winning artist Shenn Tao (aka Shenn Coleman in SL); the other regions are Future Past, Tao Lia and Illusion. Paislee is readying dragons for those who would like to explore the regions by flight, and Roxy will bring dance balls.
The concert is timed to be part of that week's Metaverse Tour. To whet your appetite, here's a photo taken from Future Past looking towards the main tower of Starfyre.
