IAR file export

Post by Amiryu Hosoi »

Hey all, best wishes from Holland.

I am back in Kitely for some new work and I wonder if we already can export IAR files.
I wanted to work on a local machine and hate the generic avatar;-)

Cheers,

Ami

Hi Amiryu,

No support for IAR exports at this time but you can rezz the items you created in one of your worlds then export that world to an OAR file and import that into an OpenSim instance running on your own machine.

That said, wouldn't it be simpler to just upload the avatar you want into Kitely?

Hey Ilan,
long time no see. I promise I will be around a bit more often.
Nah, it is the other way around, I hate to see a generic avatar on my local PC.
Besides that I have all that items partly listed on the marketplace that I also want to back up.
IAR file would be the easy way.

Cheers,

Ami

The way I do it is have a "storehouse" region on Kitely, and rez things on that systematically. Then I save the OAR (and associated report), upload it on a local instance, and take the items into the local avie's inventory. Then the local avie can wear the exportable skin and clothes that were bought in the market.

I guess that once you have loaded things in your local instance, you could develop an IAR for future use.

Hey Dot, good to "see" you again.
Maybe someone could wite a set of scripts that "collects" all the users items from inventory, automatically box them up and rezz the boxes in front of your avatar.
Every folder would become a box. Then export the OAR file. Once in the "other" world put a special script in the rezzed boxes to "export" the items back to inventory in their own folders. Easy as that;-)

I'm happy to hear that Amiryu :-)

I'm sorry but there are many tasks in our todo list that we believe will have a bigger impact on our long-term usability, so I don't see us adding IAR support any time soon. As that is the case, the easiest way for you to export those items at this time would be to use the aforementioned OAR export method. The strategy that Dot suggested is a commonly used one by many Kitely users.

That's not a bad suggestion Amiryu but it could easily crash a sim if this script isn't rate limited or doesn't take the world type's memory and prim quota into consideration. Some people have more than 100,000 items in their inventory and rezzing them quickly in succession is going to take a LONG time and consume WAY more memory than even an Advanced World provides.

Would be easy to set a limit to the amount of inventory items per "rez" session I think.
All the server has to do is rez a few folders and copy items directly from inventory into the boxes without exually rezzing them?
Btw, there is some wrong with system time. Exported OAR files are dated 1984;-)

Storing objects inside other objects creates a coalesced object. OpenSim implements this kind of contained objects as XML blobs inside the containing object. Those blobs are stored very inefficiently and take time and CPU resources to create.

We'll investigate why the OAR files have the wrong date.
