Thanks Selby! To accomplish the goal we're speaking of (providing an active chat spot for new visitors), the coffee shop would have to be at Kitely Welcome. : )

Re: Suggestion: What Next? sign
Follow-up: I forgot one more sign that might benefit Kitely Welcome. It was mentioned before but I forgot to put it in my list:
WHAT TO DO NEXT
This is a basic sign that helps new users follow a "path" that will introduce them to Kitely. It would contain a notecard that would:
* Point to the other signs and kiosks in the area
* Make suggestions for a logical progression of activities
* Point them to the website, listing URLs to areas of direct interest.
Such a notecard would be short, to the point, informative. Quite often a question asked by new visitors is "What do I do next?" This sign answers that question... even if a Greeter isn't online at the time.
Oh, and the Greeters sign is desperately in need of a Dwagon photo. Mwahahahahaa...
(In fact I think we had 2 or 3 people volunteer as Greeters the last meeting.)
PS. Here's a photo showing why it's recommended to remove the two pillars on the front of the kiosks and fullbright the signs. Can anyone read or even see these signs from the center area? This photo also illustrates that the gray concrete embedded instructions-- pretty as they are-- might be difficult for some folks to read.

Re: Suggestion: What Next? sign
Thanks for all the feedback. Changes are in progress behind the scenes. Here's what's happening so far...
The fountain and central benches will be removed.
The signs will be made full bright.
The information kiosk will be slightly rearranged so that signs are visible from the landing area. This will be done by
(a) moving some of the info signs onto boards around the landing area,
(b) moving the kiosk "walls" around so that there is one in the central back opening.
It is not possible to easily remove two front pillars. The kiosk is built as a single mesh but the "walls" are separate, hence this compromise.
A volunteer is already working on new avatars. Earlier someone asked on the forum about non-binary avatars, and it would also be good to have a wee avie -- any volunteers? The avatars will need to meet Kitely's requirements for licensing and maturity rating. With the extra avatars it would be possible to rearrange the avatar kiosk "walls" in a similar fashion to the information kiosk.

Re: Suggestion: What Next? sign
I absolutely agree with Gregg's second point. Even before the pandemic lockdowns, I was a RL hermit because I am unable to handle the stress of physical socialisation. So SL and OpenSim have been my go-tos, because they offer the vastly-important illusion of 'physical' space/presence plus the convenience of real-time communication/interaction.Gregg Legendary wrote: ↑Fri Feb 12, 2021 2:31 amTo be honest... way back in the day... when I first came to Kitely... 2 things made me leave for another world...the wake up world thingy.. and the lack of ability to FIND live people doing something...
In SL, my routine is this: I log in, visit my usual haunts to see if anyone is around. If no one is there, I log out again and return to my 'offworld' activities. I tend to show up for a great many of my main group's events, UK-time-permitting, simply because I know people will be there, not because I particularly like 'games' or 'dancing'.
I often visit New Citizens, Inc. (SL) because there are ALWAYS people there (and because there is no Voice permitted). I don't visit 'Help Island Public' or the 'Welcome Areas' because they use Voice, and because they teem with griefers and trolls. (When they removed Voice from HIP recently, all the trolls left.)
I also used to visit InWorldz's Welcome Area, for the same reason -- there were always people there. I greatly enjoyed being able to just sit in a corner and be a 'part' of things, even if I did not say much. I would often 'hang out' there for hours, even while I continued to do my work on other programs on the same computer. As people came and went, both new and old, the scene evolved constantly, in presence, chat, ideas, feel, mood. It was great.
No matter how pretty a place is, if there is no one there, visitors will not stay. They will look around, examine the scene, and leave. People are pulled to the green dots.

Re: Suggestion: What Next? sign

ok, im volunteering for new residents avatars as well
- i still have children avatars (pg) also stil on pc, not released yet - they were part of a huge project (with linda kellie her hairs, since her wok always has been used (big thanks to linda kellie for all that) , that will b fine (i guess?), i sell my child avatars a lot, i know many pple like that (just saying)
anyway,
- also reflecting on adult (pg), i can make all (original chris creationz), skin shape clothing the lots exept hairs :
what i would do is work with linda kellie her hairs tho & simple shoes as well (simple isnt the rite word, its to describe its not fancy '2021 mesh body fashion' just simple sculpt form linda)
- not hairs from myself : bc it would take me months to make a new hair that im REALLY happy with (is why i dont atm & work with lisenced hairs from sl) - (with my ilnesses its not possible to plan nor do that , due to so little hours per day having available)
lemme know if any of this is nice for kitely welcome so i can focus on them,
christa

Re: Suggestion: What Next? sign
I haven't had time to read all of the above cos I'm up to neck right now in RL, but I volunteer a tiny avatar. I'll have to build it so it may be a week or two, but it'll be original and fully licensed for use by Kitely. : )
I'll answer more later if needed.
Oh and Dot... Ilan... Oren... thank you all for listening to these forums. Whether it results in positive changes as we read here or another decision... the attention Kitely gives to its residents in these forums gets paw-thumbs up on all four limbs.

Re: Suggestion: What Next? sign
Wow what a day. Long RL Friday. Some days are like that. Finally got online 10pm my time.
I might suggest attractive "park benches" around the perimeter for those who just want to sit and chat... unless of course a coffee shop is under consideration, which will serve that purpose even better. (PS. Dwagons is pretty good at building kawfee shops and kawfee machines. But someone else might be better at it, so whatever is needed.)
Woot on the fullbright signs!
I surely understand the mesh buildings not being easily modded. (Is a sad. That would have helped a bit.) But I noticed just today that if the pillar buildings were rotated just a bit, instead of two pillars being in the front there would only be one... and it would be right in between the signs from a straight-on view, making two columns of signs fully visible. Might be an "easy fix". : )
New Avatars: yup, I'll be donating at least one free tiny... and possibly a mesh version as well (so people can choose which one they want). If you don't have these within two weeks, someone please remind me because my membry is like dried out Swiss cheese already mice-nibbled.
Most of all, as I said in above post, I am impressed by Kitely's responsiveness to community suggestions. This isn't something we see just once in a while, but often. Sometimes the answer is "That won't be beneficial." Sometimes it's exactly what we ask for. Sometimes it's a compromise decision for the good of the Grid and its residents / merchants. The point is: It's response... and always friendly and patiently given. I think that may be one of Kitely's strongest points.
.
Woot on fountain and benches. That will give plenty of central area. (Can we haz a dance ball off to the side, just for fun? I have a modified ClubMaster with limited floating text... whatever one wants.)Dot Matrix wrote: ↑Fri Feb 12, 2021 9:46 amThanks for all the feedback. Changes are in progress behind the scenes.
