OAR File / Editing Regions
I've looked, so if I missed something on the 'Internet machine', my bad. What are my options for editing terrain? While logged in on Firestorm, the land edit tool just doesn't work. It lowers the entire region, doesn't do anything, and has incredibly long delays before showing any changes. Is there a way to use any software and if so are there decent links showing how? I'll keep Googling but haven't had much luck. I have plans for a 2x2 region but would like to figure a reasonable way to edit it. Thanks.

Depends
If it is a mega region you will need to use account controls to turn off mega region mod then edit each region separate or upload a .Raw terrain file in each region
it is also only way to add land textures correct,
We use a test region to build in and create raw terrain files then load into our mega region one at a time,
Advice on land tool it is very powerful the trick is light clicks of mouse with a few moments between clicks, Go over area and edit that away then while your doing it do not wait for land to change as if delayed it will appear after you went over it, slowly go over each area slow soft clicks of mouse it does not work like secondlife
the pressure is to high to get a good smooth area you want to build land up twice as high then you would have then soft clicks since the tool is twice as strong this will balance it. It is a pain and missing some finer detail but as you get use to terraforming that way you can master the tool.
Here is some links for Oars & .Raw if you want a faster way

Re: OAR File / Editing Regions
Good set of links there, and since one of mine was posted, let me add some additional information.
http://minethere.blogspot.com/2013/04/f ... -oars.html
Is where I store the links to my free stuffs....feel free to use them as you wish but please read the d/l comments and review the Attribution nc giver in each OAR.
Yea, there are differences from sl to opensim in terraforming, as there also are in aurora. It is mostly a matter of practise to figure them out.
I would suggest if one wishes to get going quickly and save the time to learn to terraform they use the free ones noted here and learn as they go along.
I would recommend, if one is so inclined, to use L3DT, tho I don't use it personally, I have looked at it and it is a powerful tool.
Best regards and have fun-))

Thanks for the quick and friendly replies. I appreciate not getting the "look it up yourself' replies I see so frequently see on other site's forums. I think I can get it from here with that list of resources and suggestions. Thanks again.

Re: OAR File / Editing Regions
Ok, great help. All the information is there, all the links, everything. It has taught me that I am not an editor/developer of anything to be uploaded to the Internet. Time for a coffee break and maybe something's on TV.

Re: OAR File / Editing Regions
Ok, coffee break is over and back at the 'trying to figure out the OAR and scuplties thingie'. It seems pretty empty everywhere I go. Can't beat, in any way the price here. I have a 4-region world for what my 1024 plot cost elsewhere. But I think I have seen one other person, once, in-world, ever. Just me, or is it empty here?

Re: OAR File / Editing Regions
There are no grids that have the sheer amount of green dots you see in sl...but then again, sl is much older and started years before others did.Paiyo DeYew wrote:Ok, coffee break is over and back at the 'trying to figure out the OAR and scuplties thingie'. It's a common complaint. I always suggest one use, for example, Kitely, for enjoying more freedom and regions for much less and sometimes go to sl for whatever social things one wants....unless one can make their own social scene by getting people here or joining in what others are doing.
And I usually at least offer to friend ppl when I see any.
What specific issues are you having with OARs?

Re: OAR File / Editing Regions
Not a complaint about the empty world, just an observation.
I'm not having any serious issues with mesh uploads. I'm working with Sketchup and Blender together. Taking some learning, but I have the general idea and can upload without problem.
The OAR files are giving me trouble. I'm trying out a lot of the links from one of the above posts, but still having trouble actually getting it to work - save and upload. The OAR isn't such a big deal. In-world terrain editing is just too rough but I'm not looking to do all that much to the terrain. Just frustrating its seems so complicated. Then again, if people are good at it, why would they tell anyone else how to? They'd just be losing potential business.

Re: OAR File / Editing Regions
I don't mind helping people with oars or terraforming....and I have been told I do very good terraforming many times-)) Just as there a many wonderful content creators who give away their stuff for free....some people are just not money driven in these games we enjoy-)) [tho I do try to sell a few of my RAW files on occasion--like later today I will advertise one here...lolol] But sharing knowledge should be done when it can be, I think.Paiyo DeYew wrote:The OAR files are giving me trouble. I will make the OAR part easy as I can for you now.
Go here and download this file: [it is 71 mgs]
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B6pQoew ... lhOXc/edit
When it is downloaded open the folder location and note this. Go to your world page>click the manage button>files tab>select file and then replace world.
Follow the prompts until it says it is loaded...go in and enjoy your beautiful Chinese Themed region....
