Question for Ilan - posting here bc others may wonder.
I'm working with Mike McHugh on his October 27 event. He is directing people to remove AOs. After seeing the horrible lag we caused at Caribou from the ZAOS AOs (600,000 somethings for one), I have converted many of the ZAOS AOs to KAOS and have a gift box with the ones I've converted so far, instructions and the engine for anyone to convert. Also included are instructions and video link (thanks Kayaker) on how to load the FS or viewer AO so a separate AO hud is not needed and one that will perform in all grids (no more duck walking or sliding).
Mike said he was told to have AOs removed bc of lag. Is the reason for this the ZAOS AOs? Is there any problem with AOs in general, specifically if they are KAOS or in FS or viewer AO?
Thanks!

Re: AOs Slowing Down Grids
Hi Veritas,
There isn't a general problem with AO, the problem is with items that use scripts to constantly update inworld items. Each time those changes happen an update needs to be sent to all the connected viewers, and that can create network activity that drowns out the movement activities of avatars. In layman terms, this means that you should avoid using items that create constant network activity as that is a potential source for lag.

Re: AOs Slowing Down Grids
if i understand it good, when not needed, it would be better to avoid lag to just no wear an AO (bc wearing itself IS a script that 'runs' also when it's 'off' yes?), i guess?
if that's right, i'm doing a good thing lol
im in kitely to create & barely chat or interact (sadly),so i dont mind working wo ao
(is this a correct - no ao wearing = less lag?)
thanksies

Yes but Firestorm's built in AO doesn't use a script so it should be safe.Chris Namaste wrote: Tue Oct 18, 2022 2:26 pm

Re: AOs Slowing Down Grids
I've used Firestorm's built-in AO for a few years now with no issues to myself or to the grids I'm on

I know that sounds silly but Ilan will know. He came and helped Jeanne figure out what was causing lag in the region. (Guilty!)
