I don't know, but I have seen some really bad noob landing areas in some grids...lol

and, btw, I recently made a new account in sl and considering it is the oldest and all, the noob avatar was the worst I had seen in quite a while....and those darn gestures they put in there were annoying as heck!!

anywho...

The Kitely Plaza requires optimization to be useful to first comers (the high number of assets that need to be downloaded to people's viewers can cause viewer lag). It also requires community members to decide they wish to spend time there or other people won't have reason to spend time there as well. Without those things it isn't likely the plaza will become a central hub of inworld activity despite the fact that we recommend it as a starting point to people who just opened an account.

Designing a new official central community hub will require community involvement to build and a very strict manager to oversee to make sure that the world remains simple enough to rezz quickly while being informative enough for newcomers and interesting enough for people to spend time there after the first visit. We can provide an always-on world and technical assistance like we did with the plaza but when it comes to creating a successful community hub, it depends on people deciding to spend time there instead of in their own world(s) or inside one of the other user-managed Kitely worlds.

If enough people wish to do so we can schedule a time for an inworld meeting to discuss this (or schedule it for one of the Kitely Mentors Group meetings).

I just reactivated my osgrid membership for the theater show for the OSG6B events this weekend, and was much impressed with their new landing area. Not imaginative, no. Clean, easy to find my way, everything rezzed immediately, yes. No lag issues, even though I was bouncing in an out of viewers and grids that day and had not cleared cache. OSGrid can be glitchy, of course, with such an assortment of servers. Not all of the freeby shops had tenants, but the rules were clearly posted and easy to follow, and there was a nice 1 hour sandbox to get myself sorted. Maybe for Kitely - build a new simple landing area along those lines and keep the best of the current Kitely Plaza for a common area for events and such? Something good for noobs and oldfarts alike. I can donate a couple of hours in a few weeks, I think.

I agree that a rethink is needed. An inworld meeting would be good.

I have been developing modular build systems to allow users to quickly build infrastructure for a world. I am planning to sell these (once finished) in the store, but I would happily donate a complete build set for a newbie landing area and community space.

Okay, it seems a meeting is in order.

Who here will be able to attend the upcoming Kitely Mentors Group meeting (1pm PST, August 7)?

Who here would like to attend but can't make it to the this week's Mentors Group meeting?

At the plaza looking over past names that have built the current plaza it may be wise to send them a mssg to see if they have any thoughts on this
still does look like many are no longer active here also,
Do you want me to mssg them for when a set date is made for meeting.
