I have to say that they are, DD.

I have found CoolVL to be a bit more reliable for importing XMLs. Its one of the last viewers to still have that capability and it is still being kept up to date.

I've been using Angstrom primarily to export/import across my OpenSim & AuroraSim instances. I do this because OpenSim doesn't import AuroraSim IARs, though AuroraSim will import OpenSim IARs. Nor have I found an AuroraSim capable viewer that also handles XMLs.

I've so far only been able to import very simple objects without textures.

I either don't have the "right" viewer or have missed something in how to remap everything. If remapping textures is a manual process, that is even more irritating. I generally have a combination of complex objects requiring scripts, prim torturing or large objects requiring reassembly.

I'll have to poke at those other viewers if I try again.

You likely know this, but make sure you use the same viewer for both export and import of an object's XML.

Dundrige, Second Inventory scan your Inventory in SL or any other grid you log in. And inventory in RL - your backuped items and directories on your local HDD. It is true there is probably anybody who cares to fix bugs and develop new features. If you need to backup small amount of objects, it is not worth to buy it now.

If XML is exported and imported, new object is the same object like backuped one, including prims, sculpties and textures. Not the content of prim.
The "right" viewer is the one, which can handle XML export:) I am big fan of Singularity, it works for me. As Sarge said, use the same viewer for export and import, it is easier and safer:)

I have no idea how remaping of UUIDs can be done when you are uploading brand new textures to another grid.

I thought it might be nice to add, and also serve as a little push..lol, that Kitely has stated they will enable IARs here sometime.

Once that is done nothing will ever be lost again, in several regards, once brought in here. [your own stuff of course] along with the OARs.

We might need Ilan to chime in here. I thought (I might be wrong) that yesterday, in the meeting, we were talking about IARs and Ilan indicated that loading IARs was very resource intensive on the server. I think someone asked whether IAR import/export might be supported. Ilan replied (I think) that generating an IAR could potentially take an hour or more. Probably depending on the size or something. Anyway, I got the impression that it was unlikely that IAR import/export was likely to be supported, based on the conversation.

Hi Sherrie,

You're correct, IAR load/save outside Kitely Market is not likely to be supported in the near future. There is a very big difference between loading/saving a few hundred items to/from a marketplace store and doing so for people's entire inventories (which can consist of tens of thousands of items). IAR support may eventually be added for inventories but it will be priced accordingly (if we need to keep a server active for hours just to import/export an IAR file then the cost to the user won't be less than what we need to pay Amazon for that server time).
